Rich, almost full-bodied, smooth taste with sweet ending and complex notes
Gyokuro bushes are covered in shade two weeks before harvesting, which creates a light but very complex blend and a luscious deep dark green color. The shading helps the leaves to retain chlorophyll, which concentrates both the green tea taste and nutrients, making this a bright and flavorful favorite.

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

I bought a pound of the Gyokuro Imperial in 2014 and it was amazing. The tea was strong and grassy and really amazing. When hydrated, the leaves would unfurl whole and beautiful. It was my first step into high quality greens.
In 2015, I repeated the process, but bought it online. This time the flavors were more muted and the leaf quality was not good. Many stems with no leaves and almost no whole leaves. I figured that it was an off year and that maybe there was an issue with the shipment
In 2016, I went to the store to buy more, and I even asked the person working there to open a new bag so it was as fresh as I could get it. Unfortunately, the problems from the previous year repeated. Very few full leaves and muted flavors.
This year I tried again online and had the same experience.

The Gyokuro Uji is much closer to what I had in 2014, so I switched over to that. Maybe I got a really amazing batch the first time and it spoiled me, but I've been searching for that flavor ever since.

By the way - I'm a 45-60 second, 175 degree guy for most greens, but Gyokuro seems to open more at lower temperatures (~160).

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

This tea is pretty intense when it comes to brewing requirements. I've found that the best way to get a smooth, sweet flavor is to brew it at 160°F, cover the leaves with hot water for 10 seconds, drain that water, and then brew for 45 seconds (in my perfect tea maker). It really removes any bitterness from the tea, it's incredible. Another issue is that my tap water at home has minerals that interact with the tea odd, so I need to make it using filtered water. Again though, it is very much worth it.

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

I have purchased this tea for several years and in large quantities. The last time I purchased it, I noticed that the flavor had changed. It now lacks the buttery flavor, full body that It used to have, and even the color is different. Has there been a change since Starbucks purchased Teavana? Even the packaging has changed. No longer the beautiful bronze color; now a dull gray bag. This product is no longer worth the price. I will be shopping elsewhere, hoping to find the wonderful tea this used to be.

            Rewarding

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

I brew this tea a little differently than the directions say. I fill a non-bleached tea bag with a heaping teaspoon of tea. I then place the tea bag in a mug with about 1.5 onces of room temperature water (I use filtered). I let it steep for 7 minutes. Then I remove the tea bag and drink the little water that is left (about a tablespoon). This is how you fully enjoy the umami from this gem of a tea. The umami is only there in the first steep, and it is very special. After the first steep, I steep the tea again according to the directions on this website for two more steeps. Side note, umami is a unique flavor that most westerners do not get a chance to enjoy due to brewing this tea incorrectly. If you approach it with reverence on the first steep, and use the 7 minutes of steeping to clear your mind, your first steep will be as originally intended. Enjoy!

A wonderful green tea that is very grassy and clean. A quick steep time and a good amount of caffeine makes the great for my morning.

            Lovely

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

This tea is delicious, but not for everyone, that's what I tell to people when I serve it... The one I purchased from TEVANA is similar to the one I got from a Japanese friend. The key to this green tea is the brewing, TEVANA's directions for brewing green tea do not apply to the Gyokuro; at 175°F the tea will be ruined! For this reason I give TEVANA's Gyokuro Imerial 3 stars (not 4 as the tea deserves). To brew Gyokuro the temperature of the water is crucial, TOO HOT and the tea comes out bitter, TOO COLD and its sweetness will not be released, I brew mine at a temperature of 125-130°F for 2 min, it comes up perfect, just as our Japanese friend prepared it.

            A very fine tea

            By Alaskadavey

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

I love this tea. It recalibrates me to a mindful place; its aroma and taste are second to none and its delicate hue, especially when backlighted in the waxing dawn, serves to greatly enhance the morning ritual....... definitely drink it from a clear glass. One tsp in 16 oz water at 170 degrees F, for 1 minute seems the ideal formula. And, I can repeat with the original tsp 2 or 3 times. Gyokuro Imperial is a perfect green tea for a perfect tea-drinking experience!

Comments about Teavana Gyokuro Imperial Green Tea:

Very important to follow steep time and temperature. I heat my water to 175-180 and steep for one minute. I usually drink it hot with some honey but I also love it on ice. I sometimes pair it with jasmine silver needle or precious white peach. Yum!
