I too, Like Jake who posted before me, was EXCEEDINGLY unhappy when Eastern Beauty was discontinued. I found Eastern Beauty to be the perfect tea for me; smooth, rich, exotic...kind of like the finding the perfect man...withoutthe hassle of being blamed for "misplacing the car keys", but I digress. I took myself off to Teavana to re-stock and found out I was out of luck...folorn, crestfallen, my pouting lip in evidence, the very friendly tea purveyor tried to help me find a replacement. He introduced me to my new love..Phoenix Mountain Dan Cong Oolong. I was a little pertubed by the price...it is, admittedly, a bit steep (hint Teavana: frequent buyer program would be VERY WELCOME seeing as I have already dropped a pretty coin to date. But I decided to bite the bullet and gave it a try on the recommendation. I brewed my first cup today and OH MY!!! AMBROSIA!! I was, of course, expecting a lovely cup of Oolong, complex, enticing, smooth.... However, I was stunned at first sip...completely floored, I had to take a few more to make sure I wasn't mistaken. The lovely, subtly coy flirtation of toasty warm honey slowly gave way to the inherent deeper velvety smoothness ending with a softly ethereal kiss of floral to the finish...stunning!! Do try if you desire to experience a tea worthy of its imperial tribute heritage

Bought this an the store at the recommendation of the employees after I was told that Eastern Beauty was going away and that this was a good replacement. So far I only find it to be an OK replacement, the Monkey Picked Oolong is better in my estimation and this one is much weaker than Eastern Beauty. I hope we see Eastern Beauty come back, I doubt I would buy more of this oolong.

This tea, to fully understand it, needs a little bit of a background introduction. These famous teas are produced in the Guangdong Province in southern China. the leaves that are plucked during the spring season usually have more complex flavor, while leaves plucked during the winter season generally have a more complex aroma.

For this particular type I would have to say it is a spring plucked tea because of the complexity of its flavor profile.

These teas are grown from full grown 'trees' instead of 'bushes' which allows for bigger leaves and of course, different flavor profiles. These trees can reach heights of 25 feet and in some cases be as old a 900+ years. These trees are considered some of the rarest in the world. No two trees are even remotely the same.

These teas are best steeped in Yixing clay pots, as the elements and metals in the clay help enhance the tea and bring out its true aroma and flavor. Because of the high oxidation of these teas, they can be steeped multiple times with each time offering up different aromas, with the initial steeping being malty with hints of chocolate and caramel to later steepings being rich in flowers such as honey-suckle and stonefruit.

As i said in the title, these teas are for people who know about oolongs or have fairly developed palates. They are among my favorite type of tea and i am currently aging a small batch i bought for a few years so it can better develope its flavor; much like a good bottle of red wine.

    A true work of art.

I think all the negative reviews this tea has received are completed unfounded. This tea is obviously NOT a strong brew, but rather a nice delicate oolong tea. If you want a bold and full bodied oolong tea try some of the more expensive oolong teas that Teavana sells. Having said that, this tea is incredible! It has a such a smooth vegetal taste with undertones of honey. It is perfect for waking up in the morning and right before a workout (which is what I use it for). In addition, this oolong has one of the best medicinal properties I have ever seen. When I have indigestion, I no longer reach for my Tums or Rolaids but rather this tea! For all tea enthusiasts, beginners, and appreciators--you definitely should add this tea to your collection.

After the 2012 New Year, I was extremely excited about Teavana's "up to 75% off" sale. I already owned numerous Teavana selections, but I ended up purchasing no less than 16 types of tea during the sale.

The undisputed champion of the group was this Oolong. I was not blown away by it's flavor with just the tea leaves alone, but after adding a bit of honey to enhance it's already slight honey flavor --- WOW! This tea is like dew from heaven!

It's extremely soothing, full, but not overwhelming or bitter at all. The tea is extremely balanced with a warm/dark aroma that also comes through in the taste while light enough to please any type of tea drinker.

No question, I highly recommend this to anyone. I'm enjoying another cup as I type this review.

This is the most unique oolong I think I've ever had. It definitely has a classic oolong flavor but it's different than any other I've ever tried. The flavor actually caught me off guard at first and wasn't what I expected for an oolong tea. But honestly... I'm not sure how to describe it either. It has a dark vegetal quality with an almost coffee-like finish. Very deep and complex.

That being said, I only gave it 3 stars based on the pure fact that it is so unlike any oolong I've ever had. It's good, but it takes being in the mood for it. It isn't something I would drink on a daily basis or even as that rare 'only for special occasions' tea. It's just too different.

I brew this @ just under boiling for 3 minutes. Good for medicinal purposes. MUCH better withOUT any sweetener or cream. Just drink it plain. Trying to sweeten this one makes it even more bizarre... if you can believe that.

Ok, this is my second favorite oolong tea of all time. I absolutely LOVE IT!!! The flavor will catch you off guard the first few times you drink this tea. It has a subtle peachy and slight floral flavor, a capturing aroma (kind of like a buttery white chocolate, but without any strong chocolate taste). If that makes sense.... It also has a subtle vegetal flavor and a very delicate finish. The only con is that this tea can easy be brewed bitter if steeped too long. HIGHLY recommend Phoenix Mountain Dan Cong--It is a fabulous tea!!!

I am not crazy for many oolongs and this still holds true for Phoenix Mountain Dan Cong. But (A BIG but) if you mix this with Black Dragon Pearl, this is one of the ABSOLUTE BEST teas I have EVER had. I mix a big spoonful (Tevana's perfect spoon) of the Phoenix Mountain and 4 Black Dragon Pearls, in 2 cups of 195 degree water for exactly 4 minutes.

I dare any oolong person not to like it. I dare any black tea person not to love it.

I bought this tea online without taste testing it first, based on the reviews. I was looking for a replacement tea for Eastern Beauty. However, I am sadly disappointed. The tea has an initial 'swampy' aroma... If soaked less than a minute, the tea is very fresh but weak if soaked longer it becomes quite bitter and still weak, no full bodied flavour nor a layered complexity.

I just bought 2 oz. of this tea, and I have been drinking it constantly since. I like it plain, and with a bit on non-fat milk. I find it has a musky peach flavor, overlaid with a slight smokiness with a flowery sweet aftertaste...I have been getting 2-3 steepings my leaves so I feel like I got a good value what I paid for. There is a lot of subtleness with this tea, so if you are looking for a bold taste this might not be it.

I've tried this tea just over a hand-full of times whilst wandering around my local Teavana store and I'd never been much impressed. Most times that I tried this tea, the flavor seemed quite weak and lacked the floral/fruity notes that I'd expect with an oolong.

This past weekend, however, it was quite a different story. The flavor was fruity and almost effervescent! It was absolutely delicious. I'd be a lot more apt to buy this tea now that I know how it delicious it can be!
