The KOI teapot is beautiful, a piece of art. The silver/blue was my choice. The weight of it is well made. It holds the heat well.
    Bottom line: I love it!

    Turns green tea rusty brown!

Comments about Teavana Prosperity Koi Cast Iron Teapot:

I drink very expensive green tea everyday, and thought I would like the use of the cast iron because it can maintain the tea temperature for a long time when used with a candle and tea warmer. However, in a very short period, about 3 months, I noticed that the cast iron pot was turning my very expensive green tea brown from RUST! Through inspection, see pictures, I observed that the internal enamal coating has areas that do not cover all of the cast iron and this allows the iron to make contact with the tea. As a result, the cast iron rusts and this bleads brown into the tea.

I spoke to Teavana customer support and asked that they replace this pot with another that does not have exposed areas of cast iron. I included a clear picture of the bubled cast where it is exposed where the enamal had not effectively covered the cast.

The outcome from Teavana customer support was not favorable, they did not replace the pot or provide credit.

So, if rusty green tea is what you would like, this is normal and buy the pot; I would recommend a ceramic pot instead.

Comments about Teavana Prosperity Koi Cast Iron Teapot:

I made my fiance buy this for me as a Christmas present. I never scrub or even wash the outside, but any scratch or accidental scrape takes the black paint off, leaving gold flakes and gold un-painted markings behind. It's a little irritating considering the cost was so high.

I still love the teapot and it works great, keeping the tea warm during it's entire use.

Comments about Teavana Prosperity Koi Cast Iron Teapot:

I got this after years of wanting a beautiful cast iron tea pot, and it hasn't disappointed! Dad likes the water nature of the koi (he's a retired merchant marine who mainly sailed the Pacific) and I love the somewhat aged look to it and the symbolism.

He's a little wary of accidentally damaging it, but I've dropped it several times and my foot got more damage done to it than the pot! If you're klutzy, this is a great pot. Almost impossible to break it in an accident. The one thing is that it's very heavy and especially for a small woman like me, requires two hands to work with.

We're still experimenting with brewing, but I've found that fruit based herbal teas especially work well with it. When not in use we set it up on the coffee table as a display piece and our few visitors have made lovely comments about it.

Along with the pot (in dark blue/silver), I have the large burner, four matching cups, black saucers and wooden coasters. Wonderful set.

Comments about Teavana Prosperity Koi Cast Iron Teapot:

My teenage daughter had been shopping for a teapot for several months. When we saw this at Teavana, she loved it. The symbols were so fitting for her, the koi, the kanji definitions...perfect. I bought the large one for her for her graduation since she loves to make tea for us all and she was thrilled.

It is very heavy and requires two hands and not a long reach to pour. That aside, it is well made, pours nicely. By itself, it keeps the tea warm for a good 30 minutes. Longer requires the warmer.

It was somewhat expensive but well worth the price as she will have this for a very long time.

Comments about Teavana Prosperity Koi Cast Iron Teapot:

I was given this teapot in the smaller cast-iron goldfish version, plus trivet, for Christmas. Loved it, except that I wanted the option to brew larger batches of tea and keep my tea hotter. . . I felt a larger pot would do the trick. The moment this teapot went on sale, I exchanged my small one for the larger teapot and bought a warmer with great excitement. Here are some notes on everyday use. . .

        1. This is a heavy teapot! Two hands are a must for a woman's wrists to pour steaming hot tea without spilling.

        2. To keep tea hot, the pot (and cast-iron cups) MUST be pre-warmed with hot water, and a warmer + candle is also a must for keeping tea hot any longer than 10 minutes.

        3. When brewing small batches (3 cups or less) of tea, the water level is very low in this pot. So when my tea is steeping in the bottom of the metal infuser, there is maybe an inch of water swishing around the tea. With loose-leaf tea, which I was told needs lots of room to expand and float around while steeping, it seems that tea leaves are crampt. For a small batch, the tea leaves have very little water surrounding them, which seems to answer why my tea tastes a little weak, even when perfectly following the brewing instructions. The sales lady said, "it's easier to brew small batches of tea in a large pot, than multiple small batches." Makes sense. . . But with small batches in this large pot, the low water level doesn't seem give fluffy tea leaves enough room to fully expand.

        4. Some teas are very fine and don't need as much room to expand. I would recommend choosing one of those less "fluffy" tea to brew in this teapot if you plan to make a small batch. Then, low water-level isn't a problem.

        5. After about 7-10 uses of this pot, as I was rinse-swishing hot water through it and swirling my fingers in the pot, some black enable chipped off around the inner rim where the lid sits. I don't know if that's just part of the aging process, or if that was just some extra enamel that needed to be removed anyways - not a big deal. Just something to be aware of.

Overall, for large batches of tea, pre-warmed, with the tea candle lit and on it's warmer, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE this teapot. . . even with its low water-level and heaviness - this pot makes delicious tea and is gorgeous. I will be watching carefully to see if any more enable chips off while I'm gently rinsing! I don't expect it will - but if you like to make lots of tea and share it with friends over a lit tea-candle, this is a wonderful teapot.

Comments about Teavana Prosperity Koi Cast Iron Teapot:

I love my teapot, I use it almost daily. The only down side is that it is not meant to be put on a stove, it a steeper. I also purchased a piece that serves as a stand that you can put a tea light candle in to help keep it warmer longer, but I haven't experienced a little candle keeping an iron cast teapot warm. Overall, great teapot, perfect gift for avid tea drinkers.

My husband and I were looking for a cast iron teapot and we have always liked the koi fish and the symbolism behind it. We bought the koi fish in black. When we bought the teapot, we ended up getting the stand and a holder for the tealight as well as two cast iron cups. We love it, and use it often. Holds quite a lot of tea and it's great so we don't have to keep refilling it. Love it.
