You could seriously just want to buy this product for it's fantastic appearance; especially when you see how amazing it looks with the tea floating around in the glass. People are constantaly asking me what I'm drinking; it's definately a converstation starter! In addition to it's good looks, it's really a handy way to enjoy tea on the go. While I LOVE this item, recommending it would depend on what type of tea you typically drink. This product works by you adding the tea and sweetner to the glass, popping in the strainer which fits toward the top and adding your hot water. Essentially the tea steeps for as long as it takes you to drink the water. This is no problem at all if you enjoy White teas or herbal teas which do not tend to have issues with bitterness even if left to steep a long time. If you like a black tea, though, I would be concerned about bitterness. The great thing about this product is that it allows you to easily re-steep your tea by simply adding more water to the glass. The strainer does a great job of keeping the leaves away when drinking. I would disagree with a previous reviewer that mentioned that the outside of the glass remains "cool" when filled with hot water. The glass does get hot, just as a mug would get hot but it's not unbearable. I enjoy holding the warm glass in my hands. The lid is not exactly leak proof, it works well, but you wouldn't want to let this glass remain on it's side - it will leak. Yes, it's breakable because it's glass, but I prefer to drink my tea from a glass, rather than the more common aluminum or plastic type travel mug.

I bought this mug because I wanted to be able to make tea at work without having to buy another perfect tea maker or bring my perfect tea maker back and forth from work to home but I think that is probably what I should have done.
The mug is great for herbal teas or rooibos that can steep indefinitely because the strainer will catch any leaves before they pour out but if you try to brew any other kind of tea in this it doesn't work out as well.
It is very hard to get the strainer out when your glass is filled with hot water as the strainer and leaves become very hot and because the strainer sort of clicks into place it takes a little bit of force to pop it out. Then it is inevitable that your leaves will spill all over the place including into your mug. Not to mention the tea never tastes that good because the limited space between the lid and the strainer doesn't give the tea much room to expand and release its flavors.
Lastly because the lid is metal it can become hot because to steep the tea in the mug you turn the mug upside down so the water gets to the leaves but it also heats up the lid.
In closing I am pretty much only going to use this mug for herbal and rooibos teas from now on and use my perfect tea maker for all my other tea needs.

I LOVE this travel tumbler with all my heart and I'll tell you why.
it doesn't leak, is incredibly easy to clean, extremely travel-friendly, very aesthetically pleasing, and it holds just the right amount of tea.
i put my lose tea in the bottom chamber, snap the strainer in, pour my honey over the strainer and then pour the hot water in. it really is as simple as that. the leaves dance in the water beautifully and expand fully to release all they have to offer. i drink the tea with the strainer in and i'd say about .5-1% of the leaves escape through it if you are using really fine tea like red or some herbals, but otherwise i have never had a problem. when its empty, i simply pop the strainer out and rinse everything to start all over again.
i wouldn't suggest putting the strainer in first and then the tea leaves like some users have done. this just isn't practical and is counter-intuitive. it wasn't designed to work that way (plus, you're missing the whole point of loose tea!). the way it is pictured in the ad is the way you should use it!
i drink about 2-5 cups of tea a day and am always prepared with little tins of loose tea to refill it. i get so many compliments when i set it on my desk at work and school! it is such a stunning container and extremely well-constructed. i've had it for about half a year now and have experienced little scratching on the metal cap and no cracking of the glass even though i think i'm pretty rough with it. i don't understand what other reviewers are talking about with the cap or the container getting too hot...even when i put boiling water in and screw on the top it never gets hot enough that i can't handle it with bare hands.
i got this mug as a gift but honestly, i feel they are undercharging this thing. its worth at least 2x more than its advertised and i would definitely buy it at that price even on my strict college budget. its one of the few items these days that has exceptional quality, intelligent design and is also a beautiful object in and of itself. if you're considering this for yourself or a friend, buy it. you won't be disappointed!

I just got this product yesterday, buying it to use at work. There were no directions so I was not sure how to use it. So I ended up putting the leaves in the strainer, then put the top on, and letting is steep upside down. Then when it was ready, I took out the strainer and drank from the glass. That way the leaves stay in the strainer and can be easily used again. So far so good.
I was told at the store, do not microwave due to the double glass being the insulater.

I use this tumber at work on a regular basis. I brew the tea under the strainer, and add hot water once or twice throughout the day. I love watching the tea gracefully float around in the water as it can bring serenity to even the most tumultuous of environments. My only negative comment is that it leaks if not kept upright so I can't just toss it into my bag.

I place my tea in the bottom of the jar (just like flowering tea) INSTEAD of in the basket then click the basket in place. I pour in water, spin the lid on and I'm off to work. I sip the tea LEAVING THE BASKET IN (which strains the tea) and once I'm at work I brew a second and sometimes third cup with the same tea still in the bottom of the mug.
I drink White Ayurvedic Chai and also Maharaja Chai Oolong as they are my favs but any tea here should work with my "under the basket" brewing method.
I think most people use "in the basket" brewing and this fails to release the flavors and allow the leaves to expand in water. That method just doesn't work for me.

I don't often get to the Teavana stores as we live far from them. Last time we were there I filled my 6 tins with beautiful and yummy teas, and I was looking for a new mechanism to make tea at work. I bought this one, highly recommended by the store clerk. Although I suspected a problem when she made my first tea in it at the store and it was leaking from the seal as we walked around the mall, I was optimistic because the glass was so beautiful. When I returned home and tried to brew my first couple of teas, it took a while to figure out how to most effectively use the strainer. I've come to the realization that I'll need to use my "perfect tea" maker to strain the tea as the strainer in this tumbler almost guarantees you will be drinking leaves and other bits. Very disappointing relative to what I was expecting. I'm wondering if it would be better to buy a little tea ball to trow in the tumbler instead? Perhaps Teavana has some suggestions? Other than this, love Teavana, highly recommend it to my Canadian friends and collegues. Best tea mixtures, best tea quality and best brand / culture. Glad they ship to Canada!

I have had this tumbler for about 5 months. I used it the other day to make tea for work. When I poured the hot water into the tumbler, the bottom of the inside glass shattered. I was very upset when this happened, now I have nothing to take my tea to work in. I have always hand washed it just in case. I love this item but would not recommend it, i would spend a little more money and buy a stainless steel one. If u buy one I would be very careful with it!!

I got this first in the gold version that I loved, but after not even a month of using it, the gold started to rub off the lid and looked really cheap. I went to Teavana store and they exchanged it for the silver version, no question asked. I just wish they would have the gold dragon with a regular black lid. I love that style so much. Also, as someone previously mentioned, the tea does not steep too well and it is hard to remove the strainer from the hot water. You can either use the other side of a spoon to "unclick" it and remove it or you are going to burn your fingers. In both cases, some leaves will get into the bottle anyway and make a mess. If you have any suggestions how to use it more efficiently, please post it. Despite all the negatives I just mentioned, I do carry it with me all the time. I like the style. Simple and clean. I just think that the price point is too high for what it is. it is made in China after all. I would also love a large version of it, not just two sizes. I also wish there would be a perfect tea maker made from something else than plastic. In that case I would get both and have a good combo.

I bought this for use at work. I needed something that could be put in the microwave with enough room for my beloved whole-leaf black teas to bloom. This is perfect. While microwave safe is not on the box or in the description, I haven't had a problem with it. It goes through the microwave 3-4 times per day (without the lid or strainer of course), when it's hot I just snap in the filter and put on the lid until the brew time is done. I do not fill it past where the filter will be placed, so I usually get 14oz. Some small particles do get through the filter if you're using a lower-quality tea. Overall it does exactly what I need and it looks good doing it.

I love this glass for on the go. Very practical and lets me have my tea at work without too much mess. I will say, it would be better with a tea basket or a better strainer for my loose teas, and a lot gets loose into the glass, but is perfect for showcasing blooming teas.

I wanted a tumbler that I could brew tea in and drink out of. This is the perfect size for that. Not for black or green tea, though. I also thought it would be great to brew the tea and stick it in the fridge once its cooled for some iced tea later on. I could easily hold the tumbler with hot tea and my tea stayed hot MUCH longer than when in a regular mug. I am alittle worried about it breaking and can't lug it around as easily as a plastic or metal to-go mug. That's why I plan on using it more as an at home tumbler. If you turn it completly upside down it does leak. The tea also looks really really pretty in the glass which adds to teh overall experience.
