Breville One-Touch Tea Maker

I bought the Breville tea maker in October 2012 after reading all of the excellent reviews. I am a tea fanatic and looked forward to using my tea maker. Unfortunately, when I received the tea maker, it didn't work. When I turned it on, nothing happened. The Breville Company was very accommodating and I returned the broken tea maker and was given a new one. For two months, I was in LOVE! It brewed the perfect cup of tea every time. Then, one day, the basket would not drop. I called the company and was told to unplug the unit for 15 minutes to reset the computer. I did this, and it started to work again, but I had to unplug the unit every few days or the basket would not come down. This was very frustrating, as I was trying to brew tea before going to work. Well, this weekend, while trying to use the unit, the basket would not descend at all. I called the company again and was told to hold the basket button down to reset the system and that seemed to work, until the next day. When I went to use the tea maker, the basket began to drop and go up and down on its own before the water heated. The only way to stop the basket from continuously going up and down was to unplug the unit. I called the Breville Company today, and they convinced me to give their tea maker one more try- I will return the tea maker and receive a 3rd Breville tea maker. Because I do love this system when it does work, I will try it one more time.... but for this price, I should not have these challenges. And I have used the product just as directed.

An addendum to my previous great review that is a negative for some: if you live above 2,500 feet, then the boiling temperature is actually around 190, not 205. I live at 3,500 feet, and the water boils fast to 212 even when set at a lower temperature. Other than the very high price for a Chinese made product, it is a great tool, and does well at it's job.

The plastic around the steeper submerges into a boiling water. Personally I prefer my tea without any chemicals.

Tea maker stopped working less than a week after the 90 day period and Teavana basically said, "Sorry", call Breville. For someone who buys over $150 of tea per month, this is poor customer service.

Cons- The bottom has turned a brassy color from tea stain
and is difficult to clean. Also I would prefer that the kettle whistled
when it was done rather than beep.
I miss the aesthetic of a tea kettle whistling

I can not express how happy I am with this! Brewing tea is so easy, even my boyfriend makes it for us. We use the Breville many times a day. The Breville takes the guess work out of brewing tea. Simply fill the basket with the amount of tea needed and select your temp and brew time and just sit back or forget about it and complete other tasks around the house and come back to it within the hour and enjoy perfect tea. There is a feature that will keep your tea at perfect temp for an hour after brewing which is very convenient. You literally can't mess up brewing tea. I am so happy we purchased this.
I can't think of anything bad about this product. Cleaning it is easy. Simply rinse it out and wipe dry. I have noticed that I will need to clean the water scale from the jug but that is not a big deal.
I would highly recommend this to anyone thinking about purchasing it. You will not be disappointed. I absolutely love it.

After drinking tea for a year and proving that my interest in tea wasn't a passing fancy, my husband bought me this tea maker for Christmas this year. I made 2 pots of tea on Christmas and have used it at least once a day since then.

I love that I can set it up the night before and my tea is perfect and waiting for me when I wake up. No more rushing around in the morning and over steeping my tea because I'm distracted. This this is awesome!

I also got a tea sampler and it's so easy to program the water to be perfect for any tea, I would have never dared to try green tea again without it!

I bought this product mainly because I knew that my family would want to make tea as well. The problem with that is that they always need me to be present to make them the tea, so I figured that instead of a cast iron set, I'd get this. It is truly amazing and easy to use. I use the directions on tea quantity written on the Teavana labels rather than those written in the Breville manual. When I add sugar I simply give the tea a swirl inside the maker so that the first cup is not light leaving the second cup really heavy in sweetness. I am very pleased with this product.

I bought 2 of these. 1 from the Teavana store near me, then had an accident a few days later that shattered the glass pitcher on this. There is no way to get a replacement pitcher, but I already loved it so much that I ordered another one that very night. Making tea was a bit of a chore, getting it to the right temperature, steeping it just right. This makes it so simple that I drink 5 times as much tea as I did before now. I wish it had finer temperature adjustments, it only goes in increments of 5 degrees C, and I have teas marked for things like 98 degrees C. Using it to the nearest 5 C seems to work well enough. I also wished the basket shape would allow you to use standard coffee filters on it, it would make dumping it out a little bit easier.

I have been a Teavana fan for a few years now and have developed quite a loose leaf tea collection. However, I didn't brew it as often as I would have liked because by the time I boiled water, I wouldn't have the time to wait for the tea to brew. I have looked at the Breville many times with longing. I was lucky enough to receive it for Christmas, and it has been used every day, several times a day since! Just love it! Perfect tea, quickly and without a mess. And now I can wake up to a freshly brewed cup! Just what us non-coffee drinkers needed!
