I posted a review about the sugar itself and did a comparison to granulated cane sugar you can get at the store. But I didn't read the other reviews first, and I later noticed that some people had run down the 3lb. jar and somehow implied that is both defective and buying the sugar a pound at a time was somehow a fantastic deal vs. buy the jar…. All NOT true…. I also wanted to bump up my 3/5 score to 4/5. So to balance this, I'm put down a 5/5.
I can't say whether the jar is truly air tight or not. You could always submerge it under water in the sink and find out,… but I'm just not that interested. The lid had plastic or nylon threads that allow it close smoothly and securely on the glass. And it makes enough of the seal that no insect will ever get in. I stated in the last review that the rock sugar had a better shelf life than the cane sugar. The cane was sealed in the store container and the rock was in the glass jar in question. 4 months later, the rock sugar is still fresh. So the argument of "perfectly air tight" is irrelevant…
As far of the price… you're basically paying $1.50 for the jar. And considering you only need to buy the jar once,… then what's the big deal? Where are the massive savings that these other people implied? If you're still obsessed with the idea of "air tight", or you're afraid you will drop/break the jar, then just buy one of TeaVana's in house metal canisters.

Teavana really could have done better with packaging and pricing for this incredible product. The jar is not air tight, and if you were to drop it…..If they fix the packaging and price appropriately I will come back to the 3 pound container, but until then, I will continue to go back and buy a couple of the 1 lb bags and keep in my own container.
Now to the good part. This rock sugar is amazing. Each little crystal gem adds such a subtle natural sweetens to enhance (not cover up) your tea. This does not distort the tea in any way. Not to mention that it is just as good as any candy plain. Yummmy

The product works very well. It's delicious and a great sweetener for any hot tea. If you want to use in cold tea than put it in while it's brewing and then stick in the freezer for about 25 minutes to get cold! The only problem is the price. It is more expensive (per lb) than the 1 lb size of sugar. I don't know why this is but that seems really backwards. You usually pay less if you buy more. High quality but I'll probably stick to buying 1 lb and putting it in my own container.

When I first started buying tea from Teavana, it was by referral of a very good and trusted friend. I told him I would like to buy real unproccessed tea and that I love tea because (as a diabetic) I didn't have to super sweeten it with a ton of sugar like I do my coffee. He then told me to buy this rock sugar for the tea as it was the best sugar to use with the teas. So I did. I must say, as a diabetic I suffer from frequently high blood sugars. After using and consuming this sugar, I saw no spikes in my blood sugars. It may be from me not using as much as I would use of the proccessed and bleached granulated sugar or it could be because this is an unrefined sugar, therefore, it is a healthier product, but what ever the case I have now purchased 2 three pound containers of it and will be buying it from now on for my coffee as well. This is a great product that everyone who drinks hot beverages that are unsweetened should buy.
The only thing I recommend Teavana do is reduce the price by like 2 dollars, maybe even 3. That or offer discounts for bulk purchases.

I use two teaspoons rock sugar in my hot tea to attain the sweetness I desire. It still does not overpower the taste and aroma of the tea. I love the product, but it is a little pricey. Maybe I should go down to one teaspoon.

As someone stated below the sugar doesn't really working if you are steeping cold tea. I only drink my tea cold and still use the rock sugar what i do is steep the tea hot which uses less tea and is faster then steeping it cold and then i stick it in the fridge to cool it down and then pour it over ice you get a much better flavor from the tea i have noticed and you can still use the amazing rock sugar

I love this sugar. Maybe it's just my "high falutin'"(as my grandpa calls it) taste, but I really think this sugar makes the tea taste better than white sugar. It really enhances the flavor of the tea without covering it up.

love the sugar no issues at all with jar. It all comes to the same price with or without and this company is actually one of the cheaper ones ando nly ones that offers it in larger 3 pound options. Sadly enough I go through one jar in 2 months. I use two teaspoons of rock sugar per cup of tea and drink 3 cups of tea a day every day. So not sure thats a good thing...But wonderful tasting and beats standard sugar

First off, I gave this a three out of five, but still recommend it to everyone who drinks hot tea, and I'll be buying more myself very soon.
As everyone knows, the flavor of this sugar is much smoother than the cheap refined white sugar. The only alternative you might try is pure cane, but even that has it cons...
The stuff is a bit pricey, but you have to remember where you're shopping at. The major problem I have with this sugar is, it's almost useless in ice tea. It takes about three hours to melt...and who want to wait that long??? So unless you're making hot tea, or ice tea for later, check into some granulated pure cane sugar. TeaVana needs a device like a pepper grinder that can crush the rocks into smaller bits so it will dissolve faster… just a thought…
When it comes to rock vs. granulated cane, the rock has one major advantage... a MUCH longer shelf life. I bought a pound of cane and wasn't able to use it all with in month. After that time, I noticed that my tea started to have a very sour taste. It ended up being the cane sugar. I've had my jar of rock sugar for 4 months now; the remaining amount still tastes and smells fresh.

The rock sugar is so delicious and delightfully sweet. Such a pure different flavor from regular sugar. Too bad it's so expensive!
