The Laughing Buddha is an interpretation of the Bodhisattva Maitreya, the Buddha predicted to succeed Gautama Buddha in the future. He is based on an eccentric Chinese Chán monk who lived in the time of the Liang Dynasty (502- 557). His image is almost always shown smiling or laughing and graces many temples, restaurants and amulets. Truly a conversation piece, the lid is his laughing face and the teapot his potbelly. Symbolic of rejoice, tranquility and generosity. Holds 27 ounces.

This is definately a show piece for me! It was given to me as a gift & although I have yet to use it as I am a big yixing (yeeshing) collector it's a delicate gorgeous teapot. Although it's most likely machine made as I didnt find an artist signature anywhere on it! It is still a nice collector's piece. It make's me nervous to use it as the handle is a slight inconvenience and I dont want to chip it. But overall id recommend it to any tea enthusiast.

It's got a lot of character. As soon as I opened it from the package it exceeded my expectations by a long shot.

Slightly unconventional to use and to season at first, it more then makes up for it in the actual using of the teapot. People love it and always comment on it. It holds more tea then I expected as well.

I use this pot with Monkey Picked Oolong - at the suggestion on the Teavana store associate - due to the built in straining and the type of tea. Excellent choice as I have been drinking tea non-stop since.

Although slightly tough to fill (the handle is in the way), and slightly tough to clean - these are MINOR inconveniences as this pot exudes a happiness which goes with the soothing and calming nature of tea enjoyment. If you are looking for a cool Yixing pot, look no further.
