To reduce the amount of leaves that may pop through the infuser, I add the water first and then add the tea. It's rare that I have leaves floating after I do it this way.

Just tried it for the first time; used the MateVana/Rooibos Chai blend. The infuser allowed several leaves to escape into my cup. I'm sure with larger leaves, this will not be a problem, but if you use a tea with small leaves, you'll have to have a strainer near by or drink tea leaves.
