Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

I was given this as a gift. I like it, but I dont think I would purchase it myself. I like a rich, full, slightly heavier flavor to my tea and I dont find that with this brew. It is very light. I tasted it straight, and found it a bit weak. I added some fat free half and half and a bit of sugar and I am enjoying it that way. I think the one taste I dont like in it is the ginger flavor. Although that is not overwhelming or too strong (I am just not a big fan of ginger to begin with) I love the chocolate notes to the flavor. Overall not a bad tea, and if you enjoy the more spicy flavor this might be perfect for you. I was prepared not to like it at all, as I didn't like the smell of it, and was surprised to find that it didn't taste as strong as the smell. The chocolate comes through in the brew and cuts whatever gives the tea its scent.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

I couldn't wait to get my bag of Haute Chocolate home from the store. I loved the way it smelled and I was intrigued by the promise of chocolate and spices in my rooibos tea. I like ginger a lot, but it was too overpowering in this tea. The first few sips were fine but as I drank more of my large cup, I began to like the combination less and less. A lot less ginger would been plenty of the spice to meld with the other flavors. This should have been labeled as ginger tea with a faint hint of other flavors, not at all what I expected. Though again, I do like ginger, I won't purchase it again.

I didn't like this tea the first time I tried it so I put it away for a few weeks. Well, this evening I was craving something different and dug the old envelope out my cabinet.I have since acquired the teavana easy tea steeper mug. So I decided to give it another try using the steeper, and I loved it. I think it brews so much better than in a brew ball or metal strainer. No pieces floating around the cup while you are drinking. I'm glad I gave it another try!

I was a little worried by the smell, at first - definitely not a chocolately smell when it's dry - but once I poured on that hot water, man did I smell the chocolate! It tastes fabulous and was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Don't be deterred by the unusual smell, it really is like hot chocolate in tea form!

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

When I first bought this tea I HATED it. I was expecting a chocolately tea and while this tea definitely has chocolate, it's overpowered by the other spices in terms of taste and especially in terms of the smell of the tea before you brew it. When I first smelled it, I was horrified. It didn't even smell like chocolate. It smelled very vegetal.

I wasn't a huge fan. Again, the spices overpowered the chocolate and I wasn't really a fan of the spices initially. Yet, I continued to drink it every once in a while because, well, I paid for it.

And I'm so glad I did because it really grew on me. I find it especially soothing as a nice night-cap after a hectic day. I've grown to love the smell of the tea, both brewed and unbrewed and, more importantly, the taste.

I really didn't like it at all. I tried to mix it with other teas as recommended by other tea drinker on the site, but it still wasn't good. I ended up ordering 4 oz online & gave it away to a friend. I think the reason I didn't like it was the chickory taste, I don't know.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

This tea is delicious, but buyer be warned: It is not for anyone who does not like cardamom or exotic, spicy flavors. I happen to love all of those things, so I think that this just might have become my favorite Teavana tea out of the 11 or so that I've tried recently.

It smells like I went to an Indian sweet shoppe and inhaled deeply. I wish I could fragrance the whole house with it. It's spicy, sweet, and has some sort of, well, "je ne sais quois."

I'm not a crazy person, but drinking this tea is like falling in love for the first time when you're a teenager. I wish I could explain it. It's just that good.

Now, it's not really a "hot chocolate," but I'm pretty sure that when Teavana gave this tea its moniker, it didn't have Swiss Miss in mind. I think they meant to imply that it's a spicy drink, best served hot, and has some chocolate in it.

I add a few shakes of red pepper flakes to my brew, because I like it to have an even more warming feeling, especially when it's cold out. For a 12-oz mug, I add a full 3 tsp of tea, and a good amount of German Rock Sugar. I steep it until I can't stand waiting for it any longer (at least 10 minutes, and I've not had it go bitter on me at all). A good-sized splash of unsweetened soymilk ends up making it the perfect cup.

I haven't had the heart to blend it with anything else yet, but I'd be curious to see what it would be like with JavaVana, MateVana, Vanilla Honeybush, or even some Earl Grey Creme.

Those who have given this bad reviews, try giving it another chance without the idea of "hot chocolate substitute" in mind!

I drink this blended with Mate Vana; I've never had it on it's own. The Mate Vana has caffeine and the combination is nice in the afternoon for a little pick-me-up when I need a lift. I steep it for 5-6 minutes and add cream and sweetener. It is quite rich and smooth tasting - almost like a 'treat' without the calories!

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

I know some other people have not loved this tea, but please give it a chance. To shine, it needs to be served a bit nontraditional, at least in my opinion. I prefer to drink this tea as a hot chocolate and not a tea. I will steep it, adding a generous amount of tea to a smallish amount of water, since it will be served mixed with more liquid. I then steep it a bit extra long because rooibos does not get bitter like tea and can be steeped for long periods of time. I even find that rooibos shines with extra long steeping. Then I serve it with warmed milk or soy and a touch of brown sugar or pure cane sugar. It is devine and tastes similar to a cup of hot cocoa but with richer and darker undertones due to the rooibos. The only downfall of rooibos is that it really can't be steeped for a second brew.

Good, warming, earthy with a slight vegetal taste you have to get used to- similar to a Cabernet Franc. I agree with others that the name raises expectations of more chocolate than the tea has! I do like this tea- it is robust and satisfying, and after all it is tea not a milkshake. Having said that, I have now been delighted to start drinking Teavana's "other chocolate tea", Azteca Fire...OMG...chocoholic heaven.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

This tea is bold on it's own. I wasn't feeling well at one point and decided to mix this, since it cleared my sinuses so well, with the mate lemon blast herbal tea that I adored at a ratio of 2:1 respectively. The bit of lemon blast I added radically revitalized my love for this tea. It was simply AMAZING and the combination was a huge hit at my last hang out with the gang at my local college. For a few hours it was as if i didn't have a cold anymore and I made blends of it for friends who also got the bug around the same time as me.

On it's own it is certainly bold and the chocolate is quite subtle BUT with a splash of milk or creamer is pops out more and is, yet again, OUTSTANDING!!! I think this tea is the most overlooked and downplayed tea in stock. It's so misunderstood but has amazing potential.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

Haute Chocolate and Rooibos Chai are the very first teas I purchased from Teavana. I became an avid Teavana fan when I was pregnant with my son (who is almost 2 now!) and was looking for a non-caffeinated substitute for my you-know-which-coffeeshop addiction.

These two teas blended in equal parts = delicious! I like very strong and very sweet tea, so my favorite way to prepare this blend is to double the amount of tea that is called for. I use 2 heaping scoops of each in about 12 oz. water with lots of rock sugar and milk in a latte, or the same amounts of tea in 16 oz. water with some powdered CoffeeMate Italian Sweet Cream creamer. (It's actually yummier w/ the creamer than the milk & sugar!)

I don't care for it as much iced, I am a iced-coffee-in-the-morning and iced-fruity-tea-all-day-long drinker in the spring & summer, so I don't really drink it when it's warm out, but it is the absolute PERFECT way to spend a fall or winter evening!

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

Don't get me wrong, it's a good tea. Just be advised that when you open that package it will knock your sinuses on their butt. It was like getting punched with aroma. You smell the chocolate in their a bit but when you taste it you get virtually nothing so when I made it for some friends of mine I bought chocolate to eat with it. It was a decent compliment to the chocolate bars and mini muffins I brought but I was still missing something. If you want a cup of hot chocolate then don't get this. It's not as smooth or creamy though I haven't tried it with any milk or cream yet and I think that might just be the key I am missing. If you like that kind of south american locale spice note to your tea then this is for you. A very good tea but the name gives the wrong impression.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

I love chai. I love ginger. I love spicy tea. I love chocolate. I also love rich, strong tea that I can add cream to. All of these things led me to believe I would like this tea.

The tea smelled odd to me when I first opened it. I could just barely smell chocolate hiding in all the spices. I'm finishing a large mug of it right now and I am very disappointed. The cardamom in particular is totally overpowering and you cannot taste any chocolate. The tea is not sweet or desert-like as I originally thought.

Bottom-line: Overpowering cardamom ruins this tea.

AFter buying a couple teas at Teavana at the Mall of America, I went online to order a few more. I love chocolate and Chai, so decided to give this one a try......bad decision. As soon as I opened it the fragrance didn't sit well with me....almost nauseated me.....couldn't figure out why, so decided to try it,anyway. It had a odd aftertaste....and a definate burning sensation in my mouth......maybe the cardamom that's been mentioned in previous reviews.....couldn't enjoy any chocolate flavor because of it. I tried adding milk and sugar, but it didn't help. I like chai teas of all kinds, so was surprised at my dislike of a spicy tea, but I definately dislike this one and will steer clear of any described with a heavy cardamom influence in the future. Sorry....I really tried to like it......honest.

Just received the tea today and brewed it right away with Mate Vana and some rock sugar and the taste is divine. It almost feels sinful. I find it to have a perfect combination of spice and chocolate, perfect for a wintery afternoon. After trying this tea combo and many others from Teavana this week I can officially say that I have converted to tea (from coffee). No more coffee for me. Tea is so much healthier and the variety of tastes are endless. Peace.

I guess that you really have to love cardamon to like this tea. Like cilantro.. you love it or loathe it. Perhaps someone who is a chai drinker might like it. Myself I liked the smell in the store but knew that I was in trouble when I smelled it brewing. I wound up throwing out the entire pot. Nothing helped the taste for me. I had been hoping for a flavor more along the lines of wassail in terms of spices but with chocolate tones. Not even in the ballpark. Subtle this tea is not.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

Well, I just tried this tea for the first time today and I was surprised. I don't eat any chocolate or sweets and try to eat as healthy as i can, so i wanted something chocolatey for tea. I have enjoyed many Teavana teas and I find this one enjoyable. However its not exactly what I expected. There is more of a chocolatey after taste that makes the tea enjoyable. Probably would buy other teas and wait to purcchase this again. If you like chocolate give it a try!

I drink this wonderful tea at the end of a long day. It taste like some thing that is a no-no for me like Hot Chocolate. With a bit of sugar or healthy substitute and touch of milk this tea is the best!

I recommend this for people who like chai, and people who like dark chocolate, esp the fancy kind w/ unusual spices. It's good as hot tea, or as iced. I also like it iced w/ milk added b/c it's like a sophisticated form of chocolate milk!

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

This wasn't exactly my cup of tea, so to speak. I loved the way it smelled when I first opened the bag, but the black pepper flavor came out entirely too much for my taste. I needed to drink this tea with sugar and cream, when I normally don't add either. This tea also needs to be brewed properly, or it tends to get very bitter.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

A great soothing hot drink for cold days. My grandfather - who drinks only black tea with copious amounts of creamer - tried it and now always asks for his 'special tea'. Clearly visible spice pieces along with the rooibos base provide a balanced, if strong, flavor. Coffee lovers might also try MateVana.

I've been looking for another tea to call my own, this one is it. I love the pepper kick. It reminds me of mexican drinks, just enough flavor but not too much. Oh I add a tad of the sugar crystals. After I finish my large tin (african roobios), I'm going to fill it up with Haute Chocolate.

This tea has a great aroma and a not too sweet taste which I was expecting because of its name. The flavor of the ginger is the most noticeable which gives it an enjoyable spice. Also, after drinking this tea I feel more relaxed which makes it perfect for drinking before bed.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

I love this tea. I have tried a decent number of teas from this company and I think is one of my favorites. The only problem for me is that weight for weight, there isn't very much rooibos, a lot of it is just spices...but the taste is excellent.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

I really enjoy tea and I especially like black teas (lapsang souchong; darjeeling, blends); green tea (jasmine phoenix pearls); oolong; and rooibos (vanilla or straight). I also LOVE chocolate and I prefer dark chocolate. I provide all this to give context to why I disliked this tea.

It isn't for everyone. I don't necessarily prefer cinnamon with chocolate and the mix of flavors made it impossible for me to even finish a cup. Generally, I think I'm not a fan of flavored tea unless it is floral (jasmine).

If you like cinnamon and chocolate flavors together and generally enjoy flavored tea - especially flavored rooibos tea, then consider this tea! You will probably like it.

Comments about Teavana Haute Chocolate™ Rooibos Tea:

This tea steeps quickly and is full bodied. Its aroma is fragrantly spicy, almost like a potpourri & is a bit deceiving until you taste it. It's flavor is heavenly - you get the crisp, smooth rooibos flavor combined with a hint of chocolate, cinnamon and other spices. This tea definitely wakes the taste buds!!! I especially enjoy this tea on a really cold winter evening.

This is a unique rooibus. The cinnamon and ginger are the most pronounced of the flavors. It has a nice nutty taste and would be wonderful after dinner or in the afternoon. This is a winter tea for me. I can't say that I would want to drink it in the summer or iced. It is really perfect as a nice treat on a cold winter night.
