I have had mine about 3 months and have used it less than once a week. I love the way it boils and
that it is made of glass. But, I personally think that there should be a warranty on the tea pot. I have never put it in the dishwasher and have not used it that much. The bottom cracked when I started to boil water. Maybe the glass needs to be a little thicker. I think I will try a different pot next time.

I was hesitant to purchase this tea kettle after reading the concerns regarding the lid. My lid fits securely on the my kettle, and as an extra precaution, I hold the lid in place with one hand, while I pour with the other. This kettle is beautiful enough to sit on my counter, and I love being able to gauge the water temperature by watching the water bubble. I expect it will last a long time with extra care. I would definitely recommend, and repurchase this item.

In a search for a non-leaching teakettle which has taken us to Chantals(enamel)top of the line....which rusted on the welding joints, even with great care. We have found this glass teakettle that Teavana offers. While it is light weight, it is still relatively strong and it fills our requirements perfectly! No change in water taste and best of all NO LEACHING of unwanted toxins! Very attractive too! Highly recommend!!!!

I bought this kettle at the store in Seattle and am very pleased with it. I was looking for a large teapot as my family are tea drinkers. Seems like I could never find a pot that held more than two cups. I use this kettle as a teapot as it holds six or more cups. After boiling the water, I add the tea and let it steep. Perfect and so easy! I unfortunately dropped the lid and it broke in the sink, but found something to replace it. It would be nice to be able to get replacement parts when needed. All in all, a great product.

This is a great teapot. It's sturdy enough to not break if I accidentally hit the cabinet, but elegant enough to keep out and look nice out. I've read a few reviews listing the lid as a Con, but they have been using it all wrong.

First, if the lid doesn't fit tightly on the kettle, get a different one or take it back. It's defective. My teavana guy got one that didn't fit right so he set it aside and found me one that did.

Second, don't remove the plastic/rubber lining on the lid. This is what keeps the lid on tight and creates a seal so your water boils faster.

Third, if you're paranoid that the lid might fall off while pouring, you can always take the lid off before pouring.

Now about the handle being too hot to handle, you're probably leaving it on the stove for too long. I've seen the water boil a lot, and the handle wasn't too hot unless I leave it on for say, 10 minutes?

Treat the teapot right, and the teapot will treat you right.

I too have had the common experience of the top popping off. It happend several times. Once it fell into my french press splashing hot water and coffee grinds on me, and finally today it commited suicide smashing into the porcelain sink.

I've tried most of the glass kettles on the market, and this lid has never come out because of the gasket that keeps it in place. I can pour with the comfort of knowing it won't fall out and crash on the counter. I have banged it gently against the porcelain sink, and no breakage. Important to keep in mind it is glass, and that the trade off is you have stay aware of that as you wash and set it down. I have broken other glass kettles, but not this one. And I'd take glass over all other choices.

Ok, if you want an unbreakable tea kettle, get something made out of stainless steel. On the other hand, if you want a reasonably durable and easy to clean tea kettle that heats your water without adding off flavors and that has a handle that stays cool, this is the one! Other models still have a metal lid and/or a metal or plastic whistle. I suppose stainless steel isn't too bad, but I prefer the purity of glass. As for the plastic tops, whistles, and handles; ick! Who wants plastic vapors in their tea? I suggest that you remove the silicone seal on the lid as well. You can't count on it holding the lid on when you pour anyway; it is much safer to remove the lid for before pouring so that the lid doesn't fall out and break. If you just remove the lid before you pour, you don't need the seal at all. The resulting quiet rattle lets you know the water is boiling without an annoying whistle. The further benefit is that the kettle is then 100% glass.

Will this kettle last forever? Probably not. Mine cracked after over 2 years of continuous heavy use (4 or more pots per day). Also, I frequently refilled it with cold water immediately after pouring out the boiling water. In a nutshell, I ABUSED this kettle for two years and that's why I'm buying another. But it was GREAT while it lasted. The handle stays cool and the water is pure and clean. This kettle is well worth the drawbacks for anyone serious about their tea!

We have enjoyed the novelty of our glass teapot, but have two reasons for not recommending. First, the glass handle gets very hot. Our guests that are unaware of the need to use a pot-holder or other cloth when handling the boiling pot have burned their hands. Second, like many others who have written reviews, our lid plopped off in the sink one day, and shattered. We went to our local Teavana store to get a replacement, but alas, they aren't in the business of providing replacement parts.

Much to my dismay, my lid has broken. It fell off the edge of the sink, into the sink and shattered. If you are thinking about purchasing this kettle, it is glass, and you do need to be rather careful with it. Am trying for a replacement, though, if unsucessful, will purchase another one.

I bought the Alasdair Kettle and loved it. I guess I heated it too fast and it shattered. I contacted Teavana.com to see what my options were. Their customer service rep emailed me right back and said a new one was on its way. Now that is customer service in my book!!! Teavana.com made me a loyal customer. This is my second glass tea kettle. I like this one better due to the lid that stays on when you pour it. I definitely prefer a kettle that does not impart any chemicals or flavors to the water. I use it on a ceramic top stove without a ring and have not had problems when I used it correctly. My other glass kettle was made of the same type of glass. I forgot it on the stove and it boiled dry and broke. The only reason it has 4 stars rather than 5 is because it is a bit breakable. The low price of the kettle makes it worth the money. I would buy this one again.

An awesome kettle! (Note: Kettle. Not teapot.) It heats up my water extremely quickly, and my friends love my all-glass tea set that was finally completed by the addition of this kettle. After a few uses the lid did sport a crack in it, I'm not sure why, but it hasn't impaired the use at all. The store where I bought it even offered to replace it for me if it develops any further cracks. Awesome company, fantastic line of products. :D

I received this kettle for my birthday, and I've been enjoying it every day and evening since. Upon opening the box it came in, I was immediately concerned about the thinness of the glass, and decided that it would probably break after a short time. I am so happy to report that while washing it the first time, I dropped it in our stainless steel sink and it bounced!!! No breakage!!! I have had no real problems, just that the handle heats up a bit and can burn if you're not careful. It's a beautiful thing!

I'm just getting used to the idea that if I continue to buy glass pots, they will eventually break. :) However, this was my all-time favorite because of the gasket in the lid that kept the lid from falling out when I poured the hot water into my teacups. I had drained it many times no problem, but then when draining/rinsing in the sink, the lid fell out. Possibly using hot water to rinse the outside loosened the lid? Needless to say, the lid shattered as it hit the sink.

I like glass better than iron...it seems every iron teapot, as much as they've been around in history forever, seem to chip, flake off into the tea eventually. And that's whether enameled inside or not. I am going to order another iron one this time, hoping maybe that's changed and those bugs have been worked out. Teavana's great though...love their help and customer service. And the diet teas rock.

This teakettle is beautiful enough to leave out on the stove, reminding me to drink green tea at least 3 times a day. (FYI, steeping green tea for 10 mins - yes, long! - releases catechins, which actively destroy cancer cells, an issue for me.) The pretty pot also leads me to invite visitors to enjoy an aromatic, fruity or spicy tea with me. Unfortunately, about a week into our relationship, the lid fell off when I was pouring the water - the seal never fit tightly. I was so disappointed that the little round knob at the top broke off when it fell, leaving a hole in the lid with shatter-lines emanating from the center ... I still use it, but the lid will soon be unusable, I fear. I need to order a replacement lid -- anyone know how to do that? I otherwise absolutely love this tea kettle!

I rarily write reviews but I'm so happy with this Alasdair tea kettle that I felt I had to this time. I love the way I can always have the water at exactly the temperature I want for my green tea. After I use it, I leave the top a bit open so the condensation evaporates. Being careful when washing it, which isn't necessary every time it's used, is a small price to pay for such a great product. If ever someone dropped it and I needed another one, I would order this same one. Hope you always have it in stock.

It was a wonderful tea pot and I loved it. But, I only got to use it for a couple weeks before it broke. The teapot is made of a very thin glass that breaks very easily. I was washing the pot and when I set it in the dish rack to dry it cracked. I loved this pot it was so pretty.

This beautiful, lightweight tea kettle is one of the best I have ever owned. Unlike my previous metal ones, it can't rust (and the handle stays cool!), and unlike my previous electric water heaters, it will never transfer plasticky or chemical odors or flavors.

I am careful when I wash it, since it is glass, but I usually only need to rinse it with water before I use it again. It helps to use only filtered water, to minimize hard water build up. Plus after boiling water, I leave the top off the empty kettle, so the water can evaporate off of the hot glass, minimizing water stains.

With my electric range, I have to keep the heat at medium to medium-high, otherwise the bottom of the glass can burn and discolor. This means it takes a little longer for water to boil, and since I don't have a whistle, I have to remember to check on it. I would consider this to be the only drawback, but it isn't a big one.

Overall, I absolutely love this kettle.

I got this kettle for my wife for Xmas, so it's been a few weeks and we love it. Since it is clear glass after use it has some rings and stains on the bottom from the hard water that is difficult to clean off. The glass itself seems a tad thin. I don't want to intentionally test if it is sturdy and shatterproof, so I'll hope for the best. It is a really impressive looking tea kettle, but I do worry that I may break it when I wash it in the sink. I could be wrong and it may be a very sturdy kettle, only more time will tell.

I got this tea kettle for Christmas this year and I love it! I had been looking all over for a glass tea kettle (they are very hard to find!) and was so pleased to find it at my favorite tea shop! The best thing about it is that the handle stays perfectly cool while the water is boiling, eliminating the need to use a pot holder to pick it up. I loved this tea kettle when I received it for Christmas a few days ago. However, when my husband went to wash it, he "clinked" the lid against the kettle accidentally, and the lid shattered into over 10 pieces! He barely knocked the glass! We would have never expected even a crack, and yet the lid shattered and is completely useless.

I would look elsewhere to find a more durable glass kettle.
