Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I was very excited when I first read about this tea, and was hopeful.

However, I was disappointed. The spice wasn't balanced with the rest of the tea, which was weak, leaving my mouth tastlessly burning. In addition, as the tea cooled, the chocolate solidified into grainy particles and fell out of solution. This produced a thick, grainy, vaguely chocolate-flavored sludge at the bottom and a bitter, tasteless, spicy water at the top. This was a big disappointment to me, as I like to drink my teas in the very-warm to coolish range, as opposed to boiling to scalding range.

I believe this tea could be very good, if one enjoyed drinking hot tea quickly, and didn't mind experimenting to find the best preparation technique. For someone that wants a no-fuss tea that can be drunk over any length of time, this is not the tea for you.

When I first got this, I was sweetening it with white sugar, which made me agree with those who reviewed this as "weak."
I decided to give it another shot, this time with a bit of Agave nectar. WOW. Big difference to me. Perfect for a chilly day when you don't want sugar loaded hot cocoa.

Picked this one up after work today based on two things: 1) intriguing name and 2) appealing, complex scent. I am not disappointed in the least.

After purchasing the tea, then reading the other reviews... before actually tasting it... I was a bit on the hesitant / not-expecting-to-like-it side. It's actually QUITE enjoyable! Had it after dinner, added a touch of sweetener and it satisfied my dessert-need immediately. Very very smooth :) My husband added no sweetener and enjoyed it as well.

I think I will purchase more of this one to have on hand as an after-dinner treat.

This tea smells good, but that's about where that ends. I expected some body and a spicy kick from a tea that's called Azteca Fire. Instead, I got a watery concoction that tasted vaguely of dried apples. I tried using double the recommended amount to see if I could get some flavor out of it... still nothing.

The first thing I noticed is that the smell of the tea and the taste do not really match up. But that does not mean the tea is bad. I really enjoy the chocolate flavor, but the spice is not very noticeable.
I brewed 1 1/2 teaspoons for about 6 minutes with 8 oz of boiling water. The flavor was quite nice. It is rather filling and satisfying.

I bought this because I'm a fan of hot peppers and I liked the smell. However, when I tried it at home, I wasn't a fan. Been sitting on the shelf for a while now. When I do use it, I mix it with Cacao Mint, to make a "spicy girl scout cookie." I have to be in the mood for this one.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I have to rave about the chocolate taste of this tea. I tried many other chocolate teas and from teavana have tried haute chocolate, my morning mate, and azteca fire. Azteca fire has a smooth almost rich chocolate taste. The apple and strawberry herbal fruit elements bring out the chocolate flavor, similar to the way you enjoy fruit with chocolate. It's delicious and a great caffeine free treat at night. I have it with milk and a little agave. Delicious. Stronger chocolate essence than all the other chocolate flavor teas I've tried. It is not spicy at all.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

When brewing this tea, I heated the water in a small microwaveable tea pot. I realize now, after reading reviews, that this tea is probably much better in boiling water. I will try that and hope to be more pleased.

This tea smells like heaven on earth. I open it often just to smell it. My mother and I have joked around that we would eat it, and I'm pleased to see that some have already done so! We plan on eating it sometime soon.

As for how the tea tasted, I was disappointed at first. It didn't taste as I imagined it to at all. The chocolate was there, but I got hardly any fruit taste, and absolutely no kick from the chilies. It was as if they were non-existent in this blend. I also got after tastes of almost a marshmallow-y flavor. Again, this could be because I didn't brew the tea in boiling water. I also did not use a strainer -- I used a clean, empty tea bag full of about one and half spoonfuls of the tea. I may add a bit more next time and steep for 6-7 minutes rather than five. As I drank the tea more, however, it did grow on me. I let it get cold in the cup after drinking half and it tasted wonderful to me by that point. I will tweak this and see if I can get it perfect for my tastes... but I wish it tasted better without the tweaking. Overall though, I would recommend this to a friend, and may buy again.

This tea taste just like cocoa, its pretty cool :D It didn't seen spicy at first but the more I drank it the more I could tell. Also, I know there are strawberries in it, I even saw red specks around the inside of the cup but you really can't taste it. I think it's good enough to get a cup every now and then but not really worth buying a canister of since its just chocolate tea

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I like this tea. As mentioned by other reviewers, the steep time and temperature can tease different flavors out of the tea. A lower temperature will bring out more strawberry flavors and a higher temperature and steep time will bring out more chocolate flavors and spiciness. I usually use about a tablespoon for 12 oz of water and 208 degree water. I steep for about 5-6 minutes. I like the subtly chocolate and strawberry flavors and the spicy aftertaste.

A warning: This tea does not have as strong of flavors as hot chocolate. If you are expecting this, you will be disappointed.

Reviews are highly subjective and one person's favorite tea may be another person's least. I tend to like light, fruity, sweet white teas or herbal infusions as well as the occasional green tea as long as it's not too earthy or vegetal tasting. I also like spicy teas such as a good cup of chai, as well as teas with cinnamon and/or vanilla. I tend to dislike robust black teas, anything that tastes like coffee, and anything with a floral smell and/or flavor. To give you a better understanding of why I like this tea, here is how I have rated other teas:

Very aromatic out of the bag- you can smell the chocolate.
I enjoy the chili aftertaste. Seems like a good tea to wake you up in the middle of the day or in the morning.
I actually prefer this tea cooler, rather than hot- I can't taste the apple/strawberry at all when freshly brewed.
Unfortunately I find the flavor with the recommended measurements to be a bit lacking- I need to add at least double to get a nice, full flavor profile.

I absolutely love this tea. I'm a huge fan of malty, creamy teas and not so much fruity ones... But this one has a very nice balance of creaminess and fruitiness... It's just lovely. And the spicy undertones are magnificent. I could drink cups and cups of this all day.
I especially enjoy it with milk.
Also, you should try mixing it with other teas and so far my favourite blends have been Azteca Fire with JavaVana Mate, and MateVana.

This herbal tisane tastes almost exactly like hot chocolate when it is made with water. The only con, which isn't really a con, is that it gives me that impression so much that I'd like to steep several teaspoons to make it even MORE chocolatey! It's very nice as a dessert tea.

This tea has barely any spiciness to it at all. Although it is reminiscent of aztec-style hot chocolate, it comes off as more of a watered down chocolate with some fruit flavor. It is still reasonably enjoyable but I think something to provide more body would be good. Had much higher expectations of this tea.

This tea is amazing! It quite literally tastes like a cup of hot cocoa! It's awesome hot and cold - I could drink this forever! The little zing of chili is a surprising, and welcome taste.
I would love if this had caffeine in it; but it isn't too hard to blend this with a plain black tea, or even say, Strawberry Slender Pu-Erh® Tea.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I've tried a few teas from Teavanna, and this has to be my favorite so far. I usually prefer strong, fruity teas, but the chocolate in this tea is outstanding...if you let it steep long enough, in hot enough water (i.e. on the verge of boiling). The German rock sugar helps in bringing out the flavor. I found the spice level just about right as well, it's smooth and really only noticeable near the end. The tea does become more bitter as it cools, though.

Will definitely buy again, maybe more than a couple of ounces. :]

I did not like this tea to drink, but because it is an herbal tea it is totally edible. I sprinkle it on vanilla yogurt, and recently I made cookies with it. I bought a 2 oz sample bag of Azteca Fire today after seeing it listed under the Herbal Teas section of the website. The instructions recommend a teaspoon and a half per cup, but I might suggest using two teaspoons per cup to enhance the flavor a bit. I was slightly disappointed that the chocolate flavor was not more bold, but the spice worked well. Overall, a good tea if you are seeking a subtle combination of sweet and spice.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

This was a birthday gift from my girlfriend, along with several other delightfully chocolatey items.

I find that I can brew this tea different ways for different notes:

At a lower temperature (180-190F), it tastes strongly of strawberries and hardly of chocolate at all. This is good for guests and with a lot of cream.

But, if you brew it all the way up to a hard boil (which won't get too bitter because there isn't actual tea in this mix), then you get some of the chocolate breaking down. This less attractive, cloudier tea has a much richer taste and is really the one I like to curl up with.

Now, if you've made the tea with a hard boil, what is even better is taking the leftover cold tea and using it to make hot cocoa! (I use a cheap mix packet, mixed into a paste with half an ounce of cream, and then filled the rest of the way with boiling tea)

I've also taken some and mixed with with a ceylon tea for the caffeinated punch I wish this tea came with.

I was a little hesitant to buy this tea when I went into Teavana because it had gotten so-so reviews online. But then it smelled so amazing in the store I had to have it. The taste just doesn't live up to the smell. It's a pretty weak taste. It was better when I used a little more tea than was recommended and added sweetener, a little cream, and a splash of vanilla extract, but it still wasn't all that great. I don't think I'll be buying this again when my two ounces runs out.

I was really excited about this one. It smelled nothing short of delectable at the store. And all the employees raved about it. I couldn't wait to get home to try it. I have to say i was disappointed. I thought this would be richer and have a fuller body, but it lacked both. To me it kind of just tasted like bland chocolate water. I couldn't taste the strawberry, i did however taste the kick from the chili peppers, but almost too much. I do like my tea strong, and i am definitely willing to try this one again. I'm thinking maybe i should have added more than the recommended amount, and maybe I will enjoy this more. I also read some of the other reviews after i tried it and they were very helpful, next time i drink this i will try the other reviewers recommendations of how to better enjoy it!

This is a perfect blend of flavors. The spice is subtle, until the 3rd steeping. Here's my recipe:
In a 16oz Perfect Tea Maker
5 tsp Azteca Fire
3 tsp Rock Sugar
Brew for 4 minutes. It will be chocolaty and delicious.

Do the same amt of sugar but let it go for 5 minutes. You will notice more of the background flavors coming out.

Do the same amt of sugar but let it go for 6-7 minutes. The spice and earthiness combined with the cocoa and the fruitiness that still remains is possibly the BEST cup of Herbal Tea I have ever had. It is very rich by this point, so enjoy. I'll bet milk would be good, but I don't have the heart to try it.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

This tea was quite strange. I have a love for most things chocolate and thought this as a nice low calorie, alternative to hot chocolate plus the smell was incredible. However, the taste didn't do the smell any justice. It had a weak flavour and tasted like water and cocoa powder even though I sweetened with honey. The pepper burned my throat as I swallowed. That was very uncomfortable. After a while, the tea tasted bitter. Overall, it is not bad, the tingly taste is for folks who have no problem with cayenne pepper, the smell is truly heavenly. However its just not for a fruity-tea loving sweet-tooth like me.

One of my favorite dessert teas. The fruit and pepper flavors come out more strongly when brewed with just-boiled water (rather than microwaving a cup of water). Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

This tea is pretty good. I had to use more tea to get the flavor I prefer. The strawberry and chocolate flavor is a nice, not strong just smooth. I was looking forward to more punch from the chili though. For me it a flavor that is absent so I was disappointed.

A few years ago I shopped at a Teavana store on a regular basis. I moved to a city that didn't have a Teavana so I would order from the internet only my must-haves. Now we have a Teavana and I bought the Azteca. I told my brother he would love it. It was so weak. A few years ago there was a slight burn from the peppers. There is no burn anymore :-( I can't even taste the chocolate. Please bring back the old formulation; I miss the gourmet hot chocolate tea!

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I enjoy a LOT of teavana tea. I buy it a lot and have tried MANY of the flavours.

This one was just strange; I feel it is a poor combination of flavours that I can stand one cup of MAYBE once every two weeks. I think the cocao overpowers the rest and makes for a really murky, strange cup of tea.

Not one of my favorites, but if you like REALLY strange, feel free to give it a try.

Love this tea. Very versatile. Experiment with blends!

As many have said, this tea needs more steeping time than recommended, but be careful not to over-steep.

I have found that Aztec Fire is a great tea to blend with other fruity herbal teas for a great, but subtle taste, to take the sweet edge off of an herbal.

It has a wonderfully surprising kick that is a perfect end to a meal when you don't want dessert.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

This particular blend was my first introduction to Teavana years ago and it was love at first taste. However I must say the formulation has been changed since those first two pouches were purchased. There is less pepper (customer service confirmed that when I called) so the kick is much less. They suggested adding a bit of dry chili pepper flakes before brewing. It remains one of my favorites, but I still miss the original formula.

This was recommended for something different by the store employee...I like to have the Matevana and he thought this would be spicy and not too sweet. It is that, but when the tea cools a bit it gets very bitter...so the first few sips give you a great spicy red pepper taste and then half way through your cup it tends to be very bitter...I had to throw it away.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

My first time trying it I wasn't impressed. This I owe to the fact that I didn't use the right tea strainer.

My second time around (today) I used the right tea strainer so it held a little more fruit & didn't have the tiny tea particles in my drink. The flavor was INCREDIBLE this time around. I also added a small amount of the German rock sugar & a little bit of milk which paired together nicely. Plus, I could actually taste the chocolate which was a nice change from other "chocolate" tea's. This "normal" cup of tea all of a sudden became a new experience to me. Its my liquid gold. Above all tea's I've ever tasted, this ranks number 1.

My only suggestion in order to really enjoy it would be to bring the water to an almost rolling boil & let it sit for a little longer then what the package recommends for brewing time, or else the spiciness from the chilies just isn't there.

A lot of people said this tea tasted weak in the reviews, but I didn't think so. Chocolate is the dominant flavor/aroma, but the strawberry is prominent enough to come through. I really couldn't taste the chili that much, but they created a gentle warming that you can feel all the way down your throat and into your stomach. The tea is a bit cloudy, which may be a bit off-putting to some people, but the taste was so wonderful that it didn't matter to me.

I expected much more from this tea after reading all the great reviews. First I found the smell a bit fake and perfumey... Second I was expecting some spice, or a little kick. I thought it tasted a bit like cheep watered down hot cocoa...

the ONE positive thing I have to say is it went well mixed in with the peppermint. I tried this only because I had a feeling it might work, and I didn't want to feel as though I had wasted my money. The end result of mixing the two was tasty, but not worth buying more.

My entire family enjoys this tea in the evening most of the time. It is the perfect enjoyment after dinner. The tea is naturally sweet-ish (not cloying) and truly tastes like you are eating...or drinking, rather...a strawberry truffle. Of course, this is essentially calorie-free unlike truffles and not filling at all. I was hesitant to try this as while it smelled great and sounded amazing, I was afraid the taste would not match the smell and description. In fact, the taste defies even the smell and description. This is one of my favorite teas! It is exotic tasting, but not overly exotic. It is sheer joy in a cup!

After reading the other reviews, I was uncertain about this one. But I really do like it! I like my tea stronger, so I use more tea when brewing than suggested and I added rock sugar. i do like it and I can taste the strawberry. I did try eating it like others suggested, and loved that too! I agree that it does look dirty in the mug from the chocolate floating on top, but that doesn't matter! I do wonder how much "tea" is really in this mix tough. It really does just look like chocolate pieces, strawberries, and the chili pepper. I don't see much tea... Just curious.

Tasting Notes:
Dry Leaf Smell: Chocolate covered strawberries
Tea Smell: chocolate covered strawberries
Flavor: chocolaty tea, hints of fruit with the end being a chili flavor
Body: Medium
Aftertaste: chili burn
Liquor: dark opaque brown, like coffee

The steeped tea has little chocolate bits that float around the top giving it a dirty look. There is also an oily sheen on the steeped tea. You don't smell the chili but it is certainly there when you drink it! Although the strawberry was a strong smell I missed it in the tea itself.

Teavana has not responded this any customer requests to post approximate calorie count for this tea - yet it has chocolate pieces in it - a lot. For tea-drinkers on restricted calorie diets (for whatever reason - diabetes, weight, other illnesses or just plain health interest), the difference between a 5-calorie tea and 50-calorie tea is significant.

The question is all over the web but no one knows the answer.

A friend recommended I try this one. The smell is delicious, smells like chocolate, chili, and caramel.

I cooked up a batch, it made me nauseous. This is not the tea's fault. Chocolate is always iffy for me. I thought it tasted great, but almost like it had too much going on. I think it would be more agreeable on my stomach without the chili.

The family loves it. The girls ask for it when I get home from work. My wife doesn't like chocolate much either (at least in drink form) but our daughters love it. the kids both put a little caramel in it and thought that was just excellent.

I give it a 3 star rating because while I could see the value in it, it does not seem very tea like (even as an herbal). The flavor is very complicated, unique, and while it is a bit tasty, it wasn't agreeable with my stomach. The girls like it because its chocolate flavored, so it deserves a decent score since obviously others enjoy it.

What a scary name for such a tasty tea! I was very skeptical due to the fact I hate spicy flavors and even find some chai teas too spicy/peppery for my taste so naturally with the name Azteca Fire I was afraid to try this one. Wow, not at all what I expected. I found it to be smooth with a predominate chocolate flavor. I love the savory taste; it is like an exotic hot chocolate. I was expecting it to be a little flat and not to taste rich and full since it is an herbal tea but I was pleasantly surprised. Although I must admit the only problem is I have to I strain it through a paper towel to get all the residue out of my drink, but it is so tasty I will be buying more of this variety very soon.

OKay... the concept of this chocolate spicy tea attracted me.. and the smell was unusual - but the appearance of the tea with chocolate flakes mixed in.
On the first attempt for preparing this tea - I discovered that leaning on the sparing side with the water amount is best. The tea gives flavor at one temperature and the chocolate's melting point is at another so... if you do not properly use a little less water and have the temperature hot enough, you may end up with chocolate floating atop your tea. The tea itself has a flavor that the word "robust" does not match so even if you try to sip past the layer of chocolate the tea itself is a bit shallow. Tragically enough, I had more fun sifting through the tea blend to pick out the chocolate.

I know there are many merry accounts of this Azteca Fire but dear reader, I do not have good press for you on this selection.

I had high hopes for this aromatic tea, but I was disappointed. I was expecting spicy and instead got something that resembled weak hot chocolate. I guess if you brewed it strong, it might be good as hot chocolate, but it is horrible as a tea. This is also a very heavy tea, so 2 oz. of this tea isn't much. Usually I can get multiple infusions with the other teas, but this one is a one-shot deal.

It was extremely smooth, energizing, and had this nice "bite" to it. Now I use Azteca with Almond Biscotti, Thai Tea blend, any black tea really,...or just by itself when I don't want caffeine at night. I do use some rock sugar with it as it brings out the flavors of the chili and chocolate.

This is my new favorite tea! It is so chocolaty and delicious. It is not really spicy, but it might be good with a little extra spice added. Great for dessert, but also for anytime. Perfect for an almost calorie-free diet "splurge."

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I was highly disappointed in this tea. I don't like the herbal teas as much, but this one smelled so good at the store. I was interested in the chocolate and spice combo with the strawberries. The sales person at the store told me it was good to put in brownie mix. It think it will be better eaten as a brownie than drank in tea form. I'm thinking of brewing it in a small amount of water, then mixing it with milk. I think it will taste better as a chocolate milk drink. I'll have to wait until fall.

It's sweet and tangy and... spicy??

Okay, while I can definitely tell that they threw some spice into this tea I think the chocolate and strawberries somewhat overpower the spice. But, this isn't a bad thing! I mean... how often are you looking for spicy tea?

This is a definite pick-me-up when you need a burst of flavor.

This tea is wonderful. I find it soothing and it gives me chocolate flavor and keeps me from wanting to eat candy. I thought it would taste weak, but I really like it. I blend it with the green peppermint tea and it is an incredible combination, tastes like a thin mint.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I wasn't expecting much from this tea because it sounded like one of those that had the potential to be good but just wouldn't pull it off. I'm also not a fan of herbal teas for the most part. The first pot I made of it was horribly overbrewed since my toddler son distracted me and I forgot about it, but I really wanted to try it. The tea was simply amazing. It's apple with just the right amount of cocoa flavor. I can't really taste the spiciness from the peppers, but I eat hot foods all the time so I'm sure it's just that subtle. Definitely recommended!

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

The funny thing is I actually HATE the taste of chocolate, but this tea is awesome. It doesn't taste "chocolatey" to me, but has more of a warm, sweet flavor with a kick of spice. A friend served me a cup one time, I didn't think I would like it, but now I actually crave this stuff! Again, like one review said, I wouldn't "expect" it to be like chocolate (if it was, I wouldn't drink it), just expect a warm, yummy, tea with a little zing to it!

This just a very good tea. It is even great without the sweetner. When i heard chilli perppers were in this, i thought that this was goin to be a very spicy tea. I was dead wrong. This might sound gross, but wheen it was steeping, i put a hanful of ceerios to give it a nutty flavor. It tastes delicious with that. So when you get this tea, just try putting a handfull of cheerios in it while it is steeping. You can actually taste the cheerios in the tea!

I just bought a bunch of tea today I've never tried and I bought the least of this but now I wish I bought more. I didn't think I would like it because of the spice but it is not strong at all and mostly tastes like chocolate but not too overpowering. Excellent dessert tea.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I'm not really sure why people are complaining about this tea being weak. The solution to this is easy: simply add more tea. This is a cheap herbal tea, so it isn't that difficult to do. I add 4-5 tsp per 16 oz along with whatever I am mixing with it, and it isn't watery for me. It does drain slower if you're using a perfect tea maker, though. Great mixed with MateVana.

This is one of the 3 teas in my dessert tea blend that i invented while working @ the Teavana @ Town Square in Las Vegas. I mix equal parts of Azteca Fire Herbal Tea, Hazelnut Dolce Rooibos Tea, and Honeybush Vanilla Herbal Tea (layered in your teamaker in that order, Azteca on the bottom, Honeybush on the top). Add no sugar or a lot based on your personal preference. It's delicious with or without. This blend is best served hot, but makes a good iced tea too (use double the tea when making it iced).

I bought Azteca Fire because of its amazing smell but was disappointed the first time I tried it. Too watery. Later on, I tried it with soy milk, and that did the trick. Now I can really enjoy the combination of ingredients, particularly the chocolate and chili peppers. Yummy addition to soy milk!

This tea is so good! In regards to one reviewer, it does taste like watered down hot chocolate but lets not forget it is a tea. If you want hot chocolate then drink hot chocolate. For a tea it is absolutely amazing and very flavorful. I've never had anything like it. I like to drink it at night. Its very warm and relaxing.

Comments about Teavana Azteca Fire® Herbal Tea:

I am a Teavana employee and would never try Azteca Fire because there was something about the spicy smell that turned me off to it. One of my co workers blended it with Peppermint and Haute Chocolate one night so I tried it and now it is my favorite herbal tea! I love how the spiciness feels going down my throat. It is wonderful and comforting for cold mornings. I would suggest blending with Masala Chai, Spice of Life, Strawberry Kiwi(yes, it tastes like a chocolate covered strawberry), Rooibos Toffee, Choco Nut Green, Mate Vana, and I'm sure I could think of many more. I hope this gives you some ideas!

This is by far one of the most unique teas I have ever tried. Yes it can be a little weak, but I combat this with longer steeping or by using more tea. Another great idea is using it in a blend (Golden monkey or mate vana would work).I told the clerk I wanted something chocolaty. He came back with this and after he waffed it over my way, I was in love. This is a staple in my cupboard at ALL times. It's kinda tasty too right out of the bag. Than again I am weird. lol

Azteca Fire. Chocolate, Strawberries, Chili Pepper. Very Unique so i had to try it. I was so excited to try it but when i took my first sip, i realized it was basically watery hot chocolate. I tryed it again and i could taste the chili pepper and fruit. Overall, this might be good on the occasion but i wouldnt reccomend it.
