This has become one of my favorite teas. I do not usually like traditional chai but this one just blew my mind. The mate and rooibos combonation really gives this tea a complexity ive never tasted before. Not to mention the cinnamin,fruit,almonds really combine for a full flavor. I even detect notes of "earthiness" from the mate that i find very enjoyable. This tea is just brilliant and I drink it way too much! (which is only a problem due to the caffeine! haha) You can even get a decent second brew from this if you do it a little hotter and longer. TRY THIS! (by the way you do NOT need the White Chai that they blend this with in the store, when i make it at home it tastes EXACTLY like the store sample but stronger. The white chai only jacks up the price and it does nothing to the flavor in my opinion)

I tried this in the store where they had added rock sugar. I don't really like sweet tea, but the underlying flavor seemed interesting so I thought I would like it brewed plain. I was quite surprised that it was still so sweet it tastes like it has lots of sugar added! When I read the ingredients I noticed that there is candied fruit in this tea, which I presume is where the sweetness comes from. It's also sort of boring and tastes a bit like warm, sweet, cinnamon water. I realize there are some people who would like this, but it's definitely not for me. I will stick with My Morning Mate as my mate of choice.

I was never a big fan of chai teas before, but I tried this sample in the store on a whim and fell in love with it. The tea has a natural light sweetness to it, I don't even add any honey or other sweeteners to it at all. The spice gives it a soothing warmth that is perfect for ending a long day at work, or bringing with me to the office, especially on a cold day. When I come home in the late afternoon I just want to lay down on the couch and veg, but the kick of caffeine in this tea gives me the natural energy to make it through the rest of the evening until bedtime without feeling jittery or "wired" like coffee does. I drink this almost every day!

This is the best tea I have tried from teavana so far. As a chai, I expected it to be spicy and strong, which it was, but it has a surprisingly complex taste because of the fruits and nuts. I like drinking this in the morning after my cup of coffee. I find it actually helps with the coffee jitters. Buy this and you will not be disappointed.

To me this is one of those drinks that as someone trying to lose weight I've fallen in love with! I have a large mug of it in the morning with a packet of stevia and I'm ready to go! I'm allergic to artificial sweeteners and with this I don't need to use a lot to have a great tasting drink. This is one of those drinks that is lovely without cream but if you want to use a cream its just as tasty both hot and cold.

This tea is always blended with the White Ayurvedic Chai at my local Teavana, and is their go-to sample. I've always tried and really enjoyed that blend, but never got around to buying it. Then I went online to read the descriptions for both teas. I ended up buying this one ALONE, and what came to my surprise is that it tasted EXACTLY like that "blend" that was available at the store! Most, if not all, of the flavor and good qualities of the blend that they always sample is in this tea. It is so soothing and wakes you up without the bitterness and crash that is associated with coffee. I've quit drinking coffee and switched to this. Don't be fooled into spending extra for the blend of the two teas (which is the aim there anyway), I suggest you try this tea alone first!

I first encountered this tea as a sample in front of my local Teavana store. It's aroma drew me in, and it's taste sealed the deal. The next day, I simply had to go back and purchase it. I use it in a half-and-half blend with the White Ayurvedic Chai Tea and add just a hint of sweetener to it to make my perfect cup. I did however find that the recommended steeping time was too short to extract the full extent of the flavor.

I even managed to get my friend, a non-fan of any tea, to try it. He not only took a second sip, but asked for another cup when he was done with the first.

I started brewing this tea instead of going out to a coffee shop everyday. After quitting my job at a cafe, I had a severe addiction to caffiene and it was getting expensive. Slowly, this tea cured me! I brew it in the morning and early afternoon mostly. I occasionally brew it for my boyfriend and I in the evening. He loves it too! This tea is great by itself, but perfect the White Ayurvedic chai tea. I steep it a bit longer for a stronger taste, it's hard to make this one bitter.

This has quickly become one of my staples in my collection. It, along with the White Ayurvedic Chai are two of the best chai teas I've had (definitely try blending them; you won't regret it). Not only does it taste wonderful, but the color is amazing too; something about it is energizing.

While I think it's great any time of the day, one of the things I like to do in the evening is brew this very strong, mix some brown cane sugar (not baking brown sugar) and a little cream together to form a paste, then add the tea to the mixture. It makes it incredibly smooth and creamy, for when you are in the mood for a dairy chai.

I got this at the store where they gave samples out that where blended 50/50 with White Ayurvedic Chai Tea. I have not tried either by themselves, so this is a review for the blend.
It is a terrific blend and the flavor is amazing. No sweetener needed it is sweet enough. And it's now my wifes favorite tea, she normally drinks Barry's Gold Irish Breakfast tea. One other great use for this tea, is as a Hot Toddy. Brew a batch and add a shot of your favorite Whiskey, mine would be Irish its smoother and neutral. Smokey flavor from Scotch would ruin it for me. With the whiskey this is a GREAT Hot Toddy.

A good version of chai! The fact that it's mate rather than black tea is very fun, and this gives it a subtly different taste.
It is spicy, and I do like spicy chai.
But it does kind of lack in other flavors though. With a traditional cup of chai, there are a lot of other flavors there, like ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, and even pepper in addition to the cinnamon; I really only taste cinnamon in this. The ingredients list for this tea includes things like pineapple, papaya, lemongrass, and even almond, none of which I can really taste at all.
All in all, it is quite tasty, and as long as I consider it a cinnamon mate, I am not as disappointed as I could be.

I had this tea blended half and half with the white and it was hands down the best tasting mix I've ever had. It has the same punch as a cup of coffee, but comes on slower, longer and with less jittery side effects. I mainly got it as an appetite suppressant and metabolism booster to help me cut those last few pounds of body fat, but ended up falling in love with it. I brew it once in the morning and reuse the leaves again in the afternoon. While not as edgy as coffee or pure caffeine, it does keep me up if I drink it too late in the evening.

Kick of coffee with the health benefits of tea and gourmet taste to boot. Really fantastic stuff.

My boyfriend introduced me to this miraculous tea over a year ago. It has to be the best tea I have ever had. I absolutely love it. It's not too strong or too light. It's perfect. I used to work at 7am and that meant waking up at about 4:30-5am because it was a long walk for me from home to work. I loved waking up and making this tea. The aroma woke me up and put me in a wonderful mood. It is as energizing at coffee with no jitters.

I walked to work in the winter and drank this tea the whole way there and brought more with me for the whole day. It's very soothing and starting my day off with this and a granola bar is refreshing. I had a sample of this tea from a Teavana store, and actually went back the next day to buy it. The flavor is very distinct and memorable, which is good for people like me who want a bold taste. It sweetens the back of your tongue and leaves a refreshing taste in your mouth. The smell is exactly how the tea tastes, bold and interesting. It's got a level of spiciness, but in a very clean sort of way that's not over-powering. Since the flavor is so easy to pick up, the same leaves can be used for about three cups of tea. It's very good hot, but iced is even better, like drinking sweet tea that doesn't need any extra sugar. It's a great pick-me-up. When I'm babysitting, I use it in place of soda or sugary drinks for the kids, and they always enjoy it.

It generally takes a long time to come to full taste, so you could end up waiting a full ten minutes before it's up to code, and by then your tea may need to be heated again. However, I just have a peeve against bland teas.

I've never had a tea so captivating or interesting. It's my favorite so far, and it makes a good gift, because I can almost guarantee it's unlike anything you've had before.

I did not think I would like this one. Chai is my favorite tea. There are a few others I have gotten, but this is by far the most delightful and fun. It smells decadent. It is light and crisp with an aroma of flowers. I have trouble drinking some teas because of my sensitive stomach. But, this one never bothers me and I could drink it all day long. This tea was recommended to me by on of the fellas at my local Teavana shop. I told him I was looking for something that's strong with a bold flavor profile and enough caffeine to replace coffee. He recommended I try the Samurai Chai Mate and boy am I glad he recommended it. It quite strong but not overpowering, and it has that enticing familiar chai flavor with a subtle sweetness. I actually took some to work and while I was making a cup, people were so drawn to the aroma that I ended up making a coffee pot full of it for everyone. Good stuff!

My boyfriend and I tried a sample of this tea in the Prudential Center in Boston. We instantly liked it so much that we bought some to take home with us. That was over a year ago and we still drink it to this day! This is the one tea that I cannot get sick of. It has a smooth, delicate and rich taste. Truly the most unique tea I've ever had. My only complaint is that the mate part of the tea is so fine that it ends up escaping out from the tiny mesh of our tea strainers so we usually end up with a little pile of tea "sand" at the bottom of our tea cups. Other than that, this tea is awesome any time! I especially like to drink this tea when I get sore throats - I add a little bit of honey in it and it makes everything better.

As I'm trying to rid myself of my coffee dependency, this tea couldn't have come along at a better time for me. The flavor is amazing, and the aroma is just as good. I steep it with minimal sugar and resteep it once more with about 6oz of water per 1.5tsp and its perfect. You really get your money's worth with this tea.

This by far is my favorite tea. I have not tried all the teas, but for now I am stuck on this one. It is fabulous hot or cold. I didn't think a tea could have a velvety texture but this one does as it rolls over your tongue. The combination of tea,spice and fruit creates a perfect blend of flavors that you can continue to enjoy daily. Thanks TeaVana. My daughter brought me to the store at Christmas. She knew I was interested in eliminating coffee and moving to tea. I've been making my own chai tea latte's using a popular boxed concentrate and steamed milk, then happened on a Teavana store last week and they were sampling the Samurai Chai Mate mixed with the White Ayurvedic Chai, sweetned with the German Rock Sugar. Drinking this tea is like sitting next to a roaring fire on a cold Winter's night in a big, soft leather chair. It's spicy, yet slightly sweet and incredibly bold without any bitterness. A friend introduced me to Teavana, and this was the first tea that I tried. I had it blended with the White Ayurvedic Chai tea. Before this, I was not much of a tea drinker, but if I wanted some, I preferred a tea with flavor and one that was enjoyable to drink. I found both in this tea.

In tasting it at the store, I was immediately hooked. The combination of sweet and spicy was what really sold me. I bought some and took it home so I could have it more often.

In the bag/tin, it smells fantastic and as others have mentioned, the different smells blend well together. It is a tea that is fantastic in the morning - I try to bring a cup with me on my drive to work every morning (about an hour) and it really helps wake me up and as a bonus, makes the car smell good.

As someone who enjoys a spicy tea, I highly suggest this tea blended with the White Ayurvedic Chai. I'm not sure how this is on its own, but it's certainly a hit with me when blended! This is a tea I will always have on hand.

I've had bland Mate, and this is not at all bland! I was surprised at first by how sweet it was. It was a heft of spice and then sweet right underneath it. Amazing balance and blend of flavors. I will have to be careful not to drink so much! It's pretty high on the caffeine.

As someone who generally is more a a white/green tea purist, I do love a good chai with it's more intricate medley of spices.

This tea smelled nice when I opened the bag, and the notes seemed to blend together well. When brewed, though, the cinnamon dominated the taste and the rooibos, lacking the bite of black tea, made the tea taste weak overall.

I was concerned about the tea tasting to fruity, and that was at least not the case.

Overall, it is not a bad tea, it just fell short of my expectations. For someone who enjoys cinnamon and prefers rooibos to black tea may enjoy this immensely.

To be fair - Papayas are not my thing, and it is my fault for not seeing the big Papaya in the picture, even though it is not listed in the ingredients.
This also is my first attempt at Mate'.
There are candied pineapple bits in this as well, so for me this a bit too NON tea tasting.
I decided to write this not to be negative but just in case someone else has a dislike for Papaya taste.
Having said that, It is still a very quality mix of ingredients - just apparently not my.. ahem "cup of tea".
I still would like to try another Mate' based product.
White Ayurvedic is exceptional, this to me not so.

Wow... I'd read the reviews and was a little worried that some folks suggested adding sugar (I hate sugar in tea, but I also hate bitter tea.) It turns out there was nothing to worry about. Wow. I mixed this with the White Ayurvedic Chai and it's pretty much the best tea I've EVER had! I tasted a sample in the store and just had to buy some. It's a little pricey, but you end up with 2oz. of both kinds. Worth every penny. I don't know if I just didn't brew it right (followed all the directions) since the tea that I made at home was not as strong as the one I sampled at the store; however, it was still a really good quality tea and delicioso! I like to put sugar and milk in all my teas and felt I did not have to do so with this one because it was so good just with a little of the German rock sugar. I will try again to see if I get a better result. For those who are trying to switch from coffee to tea this is pretty good but be warn that the caffeine in this tea didn't keep me awake at work.

I absolutely love this tea. I hate cinnamon with a passion, so I was very surprised that I enjoyed it. It has the full amount of caffeine as coffee, and I can certainly tell the difference from when I've had a cup in the morning or not. I originally bought this to go with the Teavana in store taste tester with White Ayurvedic, which was good but this tea is sooooo much better mixed equally with Marsala tea as well. I bought this tea because the manager at teavana told me it had as much caffeine as coffee. I started drinking a cup of the tea every morning, and I could not stay awake! My grades were slipping in school because I was falling asleep in class! As an honors student, this was just unacceptable. Before buying the tea I would drink only about half a cup of coffee, and I never had any trouble staying awake. This tea tastes great and is definitely excellent quality, but it will NOT wake you up.

My teavana store always has Matevana brewed along with rooibos chai and it tastes great. But an even better blend (more kick with the spicy chai) is the Matevana along with the Samurai chai mate and the White Ayurvedic with a bit of milk and raw sugar. I like this one because of the great marriage between the delicate Rooibos and aggressive Green Mate. This makes a perfect pair. I can also appreciate the complimenting ingredients of cinnamon, almond flakes, papaya and pineapple.

I'm not quite sure, but there was something in this mix that didn't sit right with my nose. I'm a big fan of smells and if the beverage doesn't please my nostrils, it's harder for my palate to except it as well.

When I first opened the bag to smell, I was overwhelmed by the odor. It was so strong, it felt like it burned my little nostril hairs.

I enjoyed the taste after brewing but the strong odor still lingered.

I'm 50/50 with this mix. I'm 50% yes, because the taste and mix are wonderful together, but I'm also 50% no, because the odor turned me off to it.

I would still recommend this to a friend because, you just can't judge a good tasting tea by it's odor.

I drink a hot cup (sometimes two)every morning and have successfully weened myself off coffee completely!!!! This tea is also wonderful iced with a bit of almond milk and sugar...but if you are sensitive to caffeine at night like I am don't enjoy it too close to bed time!!! It is by far my favorite tea of all!!!

I bought this last night and mixed it with my Roobis MateVana mix. It gave the tea even more flavor, brewed a second cup from the first without adding any more tea and still had full flavor. It's great warm or cool, and is very soothing. My coworker loved the smell it gave it to our small office area, and is begging me for some now. The perfect kick to spice up my old favorite.
It's not overpowering either. Very complimentary.
And I'm not wanting those snack packs I brought with me either. I feel full and satisfied.

This is a great alternative to coffee and also a good choice for chai lovers. I love this tea first thing in the morning as it gives me a nice jump start. It goes great with a little sugar and a dash of cream..beware of drinking this at night! it gives me the same jolt that coffee does..got a nice spice to it.

It was hard to make this tea dark, and without a bit of raw sugar it wasn't as great. But the sugar definitely brought out the best in the tea. The smell of the tea was also amazing.

I bought this tea thinking that it might be a little too bitter or strong for me, but I'd sampled a tiny bit of it at the store here in San Antonio and liked it, so I figured I would just have to be careful about steeping in order to avoid that bitterness. Well, I needn't have worried. The flavor is smooth and rich, and it both warms and energizes me when I drink it. It is perfect any time of day, and could even use a tiny splash of cream without losing its lovely, light quality. If you've been put off chai by the bitter, overwhelming varieties out there, please give this one a try.
