This tea maker is very easy to use, and perfect for the first-timers to loose tea. However, I found after a couple of years of daily use it's gotten gross in the bottom and is difficult to clean (I don't have a dishwasher I can throw it in!). I've been sterilizing it with boiling water dish soap but it's impossible to get the stain at the bottom of the maker out, and it just looks horrible. After you're done with this thing go ahead and invest in a tetsubin-a cast iron teapot. I like using that much better and it's held up better.

I love my Perfect Tea Maker and use it every day, usually multiple times a day. It is an amazing product and I don't know how I lived without it.

The one thing I would change about it would be to make the filter removable for easier cleaning. I drink a lot of Rooibos teas and while the filter keeps them out of my cup, the tiny pieces often get stuck in it. Soaking and a lot of rinsing gets them out, but being able to remove the filter for separate cleaning would be even better.

The perfect teamaker is my companion in the morning and at night for tea making. It is so easy to use and is the perfect way to make tea with full flavor and no mess! I don't have fuss with tea leaves getting in my mug anymore. I also get a great cup of tea everytime.

The iPhone app for Teavana is also a tea saver. It helps me know how long to steep each tea so it is never bitter tasting. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my perfect teamaker.

I have had my perfect teamaker for about 7 months, nearly 8, and use it daily. I haven't had a problem with it yet. I clean it with hot water everyday and also a good deep cleaning with diluted bleach and hot water weekly to keep it sparkly new. I believe it is my best tea purchase from Teavana yet!

i have had this infuser for over a year and never had any problems. when i want to save the leaves i just put it in the fridge. it does get stained and some tiny bits do get stuck but it's miniscule. i clean it with hot/warm water and bleach i take a toothpick and go inside the infuser on the edges to clean it out no big deal. let it sti for a while and rinse out a couple ot times to make sure all the bleach is out.i couldn't brew tea without it. it's great

Today I was given this gift as a birthday present,
and it is just fantastic. Before, I had a homemade teapot that had a coarse filter and had an opening under the lid that would let the heat escape. The result was weak tea that wasted me money because I ended up using more tea to brew. Now, I just use a tbsp for 16oz in the teamaker, let it steep for 2-5 minutes, and out comes perfect tea that tastes completely identical to the store's tea. It's also easy to clean, easy to store, and very attractive. Who needs an expensive, heavy and hard to handle teapot when you have this wonderful machine?

This Tea Maker is the BEST thing that has ever happened to me! I am brand new to making loose tea or any tea for that matter. I used a cheap tea ball and I hated it. so much tea leaves and such left in my cup. I still drink it but I wasn't enjoying it like I should.Well I came across this tea maker. I saw the yt video on it and I showed my hubby it. He said " you NEED to get this thing!" So I bought it.[...] I used it that night. I knew when the Teavana workers knew me by name, it was time to start brewing at home! I bought the single serving size Perfect Tea Maker and have, at any one time at least 6 different kinds of tea at home that I mix and match. I use my Perfect Tea Maker a few times a week and love it! The only downside was cleaning, until I learned the secret. Just rinsing never seemed good enough and my dishwasher made it seem dirtier. I use this everyday at work to enjoy my tea. It is very easy to use, even for someone who never used anything besides Lipton tea bags before. It is very easy to clean, I just rinse with very hot water after use everyday, then throw on the top rack of the dishwasher at the end of the week. I was a little worried about the fact that it was made out of plastic instead of glass might make it less durable, but it seems to stand up very well to me, as I can be pretty rough.

First let me say that the tea maker has many more pros than it does cons.

First the pros! I love the design of the teamaker and how easy it is to use. Add tea, hot water, and enjoy watching the tea leaves swirl around, or a teaball unfurl into a beautiful flower. It's very compact and easy to transport and fits on most mugs unless you have a wide brim mug or a really, really small one. However, you can easily center the dispenser over the cup and pull up on the mechanism yourself. It's an enjoyable appliance, especially when you share your tea!

Now for the cons- Number one is that it cannot be taken apart to clean the debris that get's caught beneath the mesh infuser. I've only had mine for weeks and already have debris beneath the mesh infuser that I cannot remove. I doubt it effects the flavor of the tea, but it's unsightly and bothersome. Number two is that it's not very insulated. In my situation I bring with me the infuser and a small tea cup. The teacup is about 8 oz, so I have to let the other half of the tea continue to steep, which isn't a problem, but it cools pretty fast.

All in all, for a starter, this is the best way you can go to get familiar with brewing loose tea. It certainly was a gateway item for me, and I've since purchased the easy steeper, which has a removable infuser, and a ceramic tea set.

Imagine the day - rushing around, haven't had a moment to make any tea, headed into the office to conduct a meeting that bombed, and need to rush to the airport to catch a flight. I was frantic. Needless to say, I stopped at my local Teavana on the way to the airport and picked up this FANTASTIC device, threw it in my suitcase and headed on the jet plane. 3 hours later I'm checked into my hotel and unpacking. The first thing I go for is my perfect tea maker. This unit is a dream come true for travelers (any tea lover, actually) because it allows me to brew my own delicious tea away from home. I would definitely call this the perfect tea maker. Love it. Easy to use and keeps all of the tea leaves out of the cup. No problems with cleaning as long as it gets washed before the leaves dry inside. Put in the refrigerator if you want to use the leaves again but not right away.

My son and DIL got this for my birthday in September--it is still in use 3x daily, and as a bona fide tea snob, honestly makes the best cup of tea I've ever brewed. Regardless of which tea I use, the tea is perfectly brewed. Love that I can see the tea leaves growing, insuring that I have the appropriate amount of tea. I don't do more than rinse it and let dry. No need to wash it in my opinion. Also love the 16 ounce size--why bother with a small cup? It fills my travel mug! Next purchase--the large size! Truly the best gift I've ever received.

i've been using one of these for years to make coffee. i make water in a teapot and pour over coffee grounds at home and in the office and it beats any drip coffee maker out there. it's quick, fresh, and hot. i use 2 tablespoons for the first cup, and add 1 tablespoon to make a 2nd cup. clean up is trivial though best if you flush the grounds down a sink with a garbage disposal (i put a little water in and swirl it around and throw it in the trash can at work). love it.

This is the best way to make tea that I have found so far. I have tried many methods that either strain out the flavor or don't get all the leaves. Before receiving as part of a gift set, I used Teavana's Harmony Tumbler to steep my tea in, but it lets through smaller tea leaves. I also tried the paper bag filters, they are convenient and strain out all the leaves, but they take out some of the flavor in the tea. :(

To those worried about cleaning it: It is very easy to clean as long as you clean it immediately - don't let your tea leaves sit in it over night or something. Just rinse it with hot water.

I probably will avoid putting it into the dishwasher so other food does not get trapped in the screen.

I received this Tea Maker as a Christmas gift and it was the most useful and practical thing I received. This is so much easier to use and to clean than the other tea baskets or strainers. I used to only have loose leaf tea when I had the time to load up the basket, steep the tea, then clean up the mess. Now I just dump the tea in, pour in the hot water, then go about my business until the tea has steeped. Once I'm done I can easily dump the tea leaves out, then give the Tea Maker a quick rinse to clean up.

This is the greatest creation ever! I love that you can put your loose tea in, add hot water and then sit back and watch the tea bloom and water change beautiful colors! It truly allows you to enjoy every aspect of your tea.

I've had mine since July. Over time the bottom will get stained. You can not take it apart to clean it. I just had to throw it away. I loved it when it was new. Needs to be able to come apart to clean the strainer.

I received this gift as a "Galentine's" Day gift because of my newfound love for loose tea. I'd come to the conclusion that I'd just have to deal with bits of rooibos in my cup. NOT ANYMORE!!

This thing is absolutely awesome. I am excited about trying other teas now. It will allow me to visually enjoy the beautiful dance of the tea. The trap is small enough to not allow small teas like rooibos to escape. I'm using this steeper at home -vs- at the office since I believe cleanup would be easier.

It is well worth the money although I didn't believe it would be the first time I saw it online. Think of this, by the time you buy three boxes of the 100 count tea bags you've pretty much purchased this reusable item.

Take a chance, it it well worth it.

I love my tea maker, but was very upset when I discovered there was mold in the bottom. I always rinsed it out after I used it, but shut the lid and I guess it was too warm in my kitchen. I went online and read every review that was posted and finally found one person who said they used diluted bleach. I tried it and lo and behold it worked! I soaked it a while and then I would drain the bleach solution in a cup and rinse it out good, then pour the solution back in, let it soak and I did scrub it lightly with a toothbrush and if you look real close, you will see the mold coming out and floating to the top. I dipped the mold pieces out and just kept doing the same thing over and over. I am very pleased to say, it is clean as new. I just wanted some of you to know there is hope to get it clean and you don't have to throw it away. Good luck and enjoy your tea.

I've given several of these as gifts. The tea that the tea maker produces is fantastic. I wish it was easier to clean - the bottom end is impossible to clean and under the filter can get really funky after a while. I typically rinse the tea maker out after each use and once a week I'll let it soak with a capful of bleach and hot water to take care of the stubborn stains in the portions that can't be scrubbed clean.

This is a GREAT product IF you take care of it.... Sometimes we did and sometimes we didn't. When I made tea in it, I dumped it and rinsed it when I was done with it from both sides, then I put it clean in the top rack of the dishwasher (only to sanitize). My husband, on the other hand (I love him dearly), doesn't clean anything right away so the tea inside molded... I now have to throw mine away beause there's no way to clean it, but it was our own fault.. I'm buying two more when I go back to the store. I miss mine!!!!! (And guess who else misses them! LOL!)

I love this for a quick cup when not using my tea pots! It stains after a few days or weeks of use depending on how often you use it. I just pour and stir in a tablespoon of Oxy powder (laundry aisle) and hot water, let it soak for about 15-30 min, rinse it out, and it looks like new! No scrubbing or anything. Very shiny and clean. Just be careful with extreme temperature change. Let it cool down before you rinse with cold water or it will crack.

This is a very simple product to use, and I use it multiple times a day.

I have no idea why people say this is hard to clean. The only way I can see it being difficult to clean, is if the tea leaves are left in there after being used, and just left to sit for a day or two. I rinse mine with hot water right after use, sometimes adding some mild soap and letting it sit for a while. Honestly, unless you leave a ton of tea in the thing to sit for a while, cleaning is a literal snap and takes 30 seconds.

Love this and will always reccomend it. I have had no problems with leakage or breakage.

I saw this demoed in store, and thank goodness my husband remembered I coveted this item come Christmastime! I have four defunct tea making methods at home...a tea ball, the strainer that sits over the cup, an acrylic pot with steeping unit inside, and a single cup with a ceramic insert with holes. Finally, I've found a much simpler, cleaner, way to make a cup of tea with no tidbits in my glass!

It is dishwasher safe, though if you want to avoid any discoloring, hand wash.

I had this product for 1 year, it was easy to clean in the beginning, but after a few months, the plastic became foggy, I just dealt with it until it became so gross, I put it into the dishwasher,and
It wouldnt come clean so I soaked it in vinegar didnt help put it back in dishwasher and low and behold and thankfully I noticed how gross the filter got from the dishwasher, If I would of drank out of that I would of threw up! I use this several times a week at a minimum... a day often and loved it until it began to have the movable bottom drain feature "stick" in the open position and find the precious liquid all over my counter and under things, etc. One tea maker I have the straining feature is removable the other not. Ilike the removable one but don't see replacement parts for when they begin to loosen after multiple uses.

I happened into one of the Teavana stores and bought some tea. When I got home I found that all the tea infusers I had didn't work with the loose tea. They all leaked into the cup of tea. I found that someone had used my Perfect Tea Maker and left their tea in it. The tea sat wet long enough to require a deep cleaning. After realizing you can't disassemble it to clean, I came up with another way to clean under the screen. I used my Waterpik to blast it clean with vinegar (the Waterpik flows better now too) and then ran a few pots of boiling water through it to get the vinegar out. Good as new!

First off, this thing is great. It's an ideal container for leaves you can brew more than once. The only thing I think could improve it would be a way to secure the stand piece. I drink my tea at work and like to take the maker home each night. After spilling leftovers a few times I just put a rubber band on it and it travels better. If you like their tea this is a must have!

I have had this product for about 3 years now and I am just as happy today as I was when I bought it. I think it is the most simple thing to use when making tea! I have gotten my family hooked on it and all my friends because of how easy it is and how great the tea is afterwards. I hate cleaning it though since it is a little difficult, but that didn't stop me from buying myself another one and a 32 ounce one! If you drink a lot of tea I would recommend the bigger one otherwise for this one the whole thing can fit in one oversized mug.

The product works just fine. The problem is you better not run it in the dishwasher. The food and debris from the washer will become trapped under the screen (between the screen and the plastic guard on the bottom that does NOT come off). The tea is placed above that screen. You will forever strain dishwasher debris along with your tea if you don't hand wash it!!!

I loved the product for the first week I used it (daily) then suddenly it would not hold water but leaked from the bottom before you could get it near the cup. Even when it sat on its little platform it leaked. I washed it by hand..never in a dishwasher. It did not fall or experience any hard knocks. this is a great product- these little tea maker cups are great!
i've had mine for about a year and it still works fine. i just hand-wash and air dry since i use it at work. everyone wants to know what i have when i walk around with it while its brewing. they think i'm weird with my "fancy" tea, but they're used to me now. :)
i think the size is just perfect- i usually have a really large mug so 16oz is great. i just heat up my water in the mug, then pour it in to steep. (and then walk with a mug and the maker back to my area.) i then just strain my tea right back into my mug when it's ready and i'm set- no fuss with measuring water or anything.
i didn't get mine from teavana- i got mine at a little local health food store for a few bucks less- but i saw these at my teavana store and its seriously, exactaly the same- except the logo! :)
now i can tell people to just get one from here- its much more trendy and fancy for the people who are scared of little granola stores!
now i want a big one for at home!

I have one of these at home and one at the office. I love how they work, allowing the leaves to expand fully, producing an excellent cup of tea. But as others have mentioned, they're difficult to clean. Another issue I've had is that because the lid doesn't come off I can't get the tea maker under the spout of the fancy coffee maker/hot water dispenser at work, so I can't dispense hot water directly into it. I have to fill my mug up with water and then pour it into the tea maker, inevitably spilling some on the floor in the process.

And the biggest problem is that after a couple of months of everyday use, the tea maker has started to leak onto the coaster while the tea is steeping. It keeps getting slightly worse over time, and I think eventually this won't be usable. I'm not sure if I will replace it with another one or with something else.

I love this product and have recommended it to all of my family and friends! It's fun to use, easy to clean up in the sink (just run hot water through it) and makes a great mug of tea every time! I find it works great when used with a beer mug! (just the right size). I like to put blueberries and the raw rock sugar in the mug and let the steeped tea flow right on in. It leaves me with an extra treat when the tea is all gone!

I received this as a gift from our oldest daughter and I can't at this moment think of a nicer. more functional gift that reminds you of the giver for years to come. The Earl Grey Creme tea that she included with it was a nice treat to learn this (new to me) process for making tea at a hotter temp than I had been using. I appreciated the learning that was available in the package on other teas and how to really bring the best out in teas of all kinds. It does require a minimal amount of coordination, but far less as you get used to it. I haven't dropped mine, but wouldn't really expect it to do well in that type of ":test". It definitely has made tea preparation (which was always a means to an end) MUCH more fun and now part of the total enjoyment! I'm in today to get a perfect tea maker for my sister's birthday!

My husband received this as a gift three days ago. We were thrilled and have had several cups of perfect tea since. The concept is wonderful and the tea is delicious but... I wanted a cup this morning and when I pulled it out of the cupboard, it slipped out of my hand. When it hit the floor, the little ball that keeps the liquid in dislodged. It cannot be repaired and customer service's response was basically "too bad, so sad, buy a new one". I found that since I can use the tea leaves more than once I dont dump it out every time I use it. I bought two small glass dishes with plastic lids If my husband wants a different flavor I put my tea leaves in the dish cover it and put them in the refrig....a wonderful teavana sales clerk gave me this idea. The leaves taste just as good when you take them out of refrig to use. I dont keep them more than a day but it makes it easy to keep the tea leaves safe if you arent going to brew tea from am to dinnertime also

This PERFECT gadget got me off coffee completely! I've always enjoyed hot tea, but did not like the tea balls or loose tea spoons as leaves always seem to seep into the tea.

After reading several of the reviews, I have to comment on a couple of points. First - you should get 2-3 cups of tea from 1 - 1.5 tsps of tea. No need to clean out your tea leaves after every cup. That makes this tea VERY economical. Second - with regards to cleaning - it's just tea stain ! Ever looked inside a stainless coffee pot ? That's worse than the stain on the strainer of this teamaker. I make so many cups fo tea throughout the day, I just run hot water thru it - no soap as I don't want soap residue in my tea - I do on accasion run it thru the dishwasher.

I keep one at home and one at the office; and I bought the stainless travel tea thermos/mug - GREAT for when I travel and want to take my teas....a space saver vs carrying the tea maker.

Such a wonderful product. I have given MANY as gifts - and now I can give the tea/cannisters. Everyone is always so thrilled to receive a new tea blend.

I was new to tea when I received this tea maker as a gift. It is easy to use and quick. It does one serving at a time which is exactly what I need it for. This device has turned me from a person relatively new to tea to someone who knows alot and enjoys alot of tea. The only problem I have with it is that parts of it can be hard to clean especially after using it with rooibus tea due to the residue it leaves. This is the greatest invention ever!! 5 stars. Makes a perfect cup of tea. You can either make two-eight once cups or one-sixteen once cup depending on what size mugs you have. This product is so much better than the old fashioned tea balls that can occasionally seep out tea leaves into your mug.

I've noticed some of the other reviews have stated that it is difficult to clean. All I simply do is throw it down my drain (which has a garbage disposal) and rinse it out multiple times until all the tea leaves are gone. Once a week I fill it with warm, not hot, soapy water and use a non abrasive sponge to clean the interior and exterior. Thus far that has been working marvelously for me. No messy clean up here.

I would strongly recommend this product to all where are tired of having floaties in their tea from the tea balls.

If you are ever considering a change to the design in the future, maybe a lid that can be removed. I love this little tea maker. I bought one for myself and my husband, he seems to love it too.
The solution I found to the mold issue that a few people have described is just to rinse the maker out with water after use and leave the lid open. With the lid open the air circulation creates more of a dry environment where mold doesn't seem at least so far, to grow.

I use the Teavana every morning at home and I'm thinking about getting one for work as well. It allows plenty of room for the tea to expand and extremely convenient to use. The one downside is that is difficult to clean, specifically if anything gets into the space at the bottom around the metal filter. I once left the Teavana out with tea inside over several weeks and found that fungus had taken over the bottom of the tea maker. After struggling with soap and water for days with no avail, I finally solved the problem by soaking the Teavana in a dilute bleach solution. It completely dissolved the mold. While I wouldn't recommend this for everyday cleaning due to the potentially corrosive effects of bleach, it does work to save a badly contaminated Teavana. Dumping out the tea after use and giving a quick rinse should prevent this problem from happening.

Bought it, used it, loved it, cleaned it. If you leave any tea in it for more than 24 hours, watch out for mold. Eventually it will get underneath the screen, and you will have to take it apart as much as it can be. The way I got to the stuff in between the ball bearing and the screen, was to use a bent paperclip and go in through the opening where the bearing is. Kinda hard to do, and if you aren't careful, you could poke a hole through the screen, so bend the end of the paperclip to make a little hook, and just scrape it gently. I also used compressed air, like the stuff you use to clean computer keyboards, and that worked pretty well. If you get in the habit of tossing out the tea after each use, and rinsing the Tea Maker thoroughly, it should last a while.

I brought this tea maker home and quickly fell in love with it. As time went on though I noticed there was pieces of tea sticking underneath the mesh strainer and the plastic bottom. Since there is no way to take this apart I have had a rough time cleaning it. There was even mold growing under the strainer the last time.... now I'm afraid to use it again. I do think the design needs to be worked on so it is easier to clean.

This is a great product. It is very easy to use and works great. I was under the impression due to the packaging that it came with the mug, however the entire unit is fantastic. The lid and filter are not removable but it is still easy to clean out after using.

I have but one problem with this tea maker. It is that when you brew a cup of tea in it, inevitably there will be a small amount of wet tea leaves in the bottom between the plastic and the mesh. This is a big design flaw. As it does not allow for proper cleaning. I realize that it will mean that inevitably you will sell more of these makers but once a person realizes that they can buy a nicer tea maker and keep it for a long time they will stop using theses. A very dear friend gave me a Teavana starter kit while I was recovering from the flu this winter. What a healing gift! I have used it nearly everyday since and it truely does make the perfect cup of tea. I just wish the filter could be removed for a better cleaning, that aside I will never use bags or a tea infuser again.

I have the larger tea maker (I think 32 oz) It is perfect to make tea in the morning and fill my thermos. I was afraid the tea would get bitter, if it sat in a thermos. Not so! It's perfect all morning and into the afternoon, if it lasts that long.

I'm really enjoying this. Functional, simple, easy to clean, stores tea that can be used for more than one steep, and no tea flotsam in my cup! I'm thrilled, and just hopeful that it stands the test of time (I've only had it about a week).

I use my Perfect tea maker all the time I just love it. It is so easy to use and make a perfect cup or more of tea rvery time. You should get one and just try it.

The only problem that I have with the tea maker is that it started leaking after a few months of easy use. I rarely put it in the dishwasher, so I'm not sure what started the problem. Also, I wish that the bottom portion could be taken apart and cleaned, some of the finer teas had sediment that got stuck under there and I couldn't get it out, so it tries to get moldy.

I love both my teamakers, but I take this one camping with me. I LOVE its ease and convenience.

My wife used only teabags because her teamaker was so cumbersome to use for just herself. This is perfect for her when she is making only a cup for herself and is so easy to use. Makes great tea! The only thing that would improve it would be if the lid removed for easier cleaning.

The thing is great, it's only issue is that cleaning can be a little challenging but not to much. Definitely a great buy!

I enjoy the convenience of the Tea Maker
