Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

This tea is absolutely fantastic. I was initially drawn to this tea because they were pearls, and black teas are my favorite. It is neat to watch the pearls unfurl as they steep, but the best part is inhaling the aroma while taking that first sip of a freshly brewed cup. There is really nothing like it!! I use 3 pearls per 8 oz water and steep at 195-205 for 3-4 mins. The resulting liquor is a very dark golden brown and smells of honey and chocolate. Golden Monkey has nothing on this beauty of a tea. A must have for any tea enthusiast!

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I live in southern California, so I drink a lot of teas iced. This is my everyday goto iced tea. It has the best flavor of any plain black tea that I've had thus far and I manage to get 2 brewings out of 5-6 pearls. I've tried to find comparable but cheaper ones, but thus far this one stands alone.

I have been having problems recreating those oh-so-smooth and flavorful cuppas that I enjoyed on various trips to the UK. Even getting the same brands of tea did not help. Now I have found a tea that tastes that way at home. I'm so glad I tried this tea, it is an instant favorite.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I have tried various black teas and none of them top this one. The sweet cocoa notes hidden in this full tea make it excellent. One of its best attributes is the fact it has little to no bitterness at all. Great for multiple infusions, but I find the best cup is usually the second. I like it a tad bit stronger, so I steep mine at 195 in 4 minutes. For each infusion, I add 15-30 seconds depending on my mood.

There's a reason this tea has such a high rating. Go get some!

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

Tried a small sample of this tea and was instantly IN LOVE with it. Black Dragon Pearls, so round, so firm, so fully...........flavored! It's a little bit pricey if your planning on keeping a large amount in stock, but I think it's worth it. The ability to be steeped more than once should help to cut down on the price, considerably. I find the malty natural sweetness to be delightful. Doesn't need any extra sweetener, but a few pebbles of the German Rock Sugar only add to the experience.

I love a good tea that has different notes on the tongue, and this one is a delight. I prefer pu-erh and oolong teas and this is a black tea that is close to an oolong taste with a nice malty finish. I call it 'Dragon Balls' tea and use 5 balls for a 16 oz cup. Highly reccommended if you want to branch out your tea tastes!

For those who are into straight, black teas...it doesnt get any better than Black Dragon Pearl. It has easily become my new favorite tea...it gets me going in the morning and keeps me going through the afternoon at work. I can resteep a couple of times before it loses its oomph. When I first started purchasing Teavana teas, I couldnt see paying the higher dollar for tea...now that I have tried both the less expensive teas and the more expensive teas I see a HUGE difference....you get what you pay for and now I guess I am hooked on higher quality...this one delivers....it is rich and deep...makes other less expensive teas taste like water...loving this one for sure.

I have never liked black tea, and the first time I made this one was no exception. I used 3 balls and seeped for 3 minutes, but it tasted bitter to me with a strong aftertaste.

After a couple of weeks I tried it again, but this time used 2 balls and seeped for ~2:30. Wow, what a difference - now I am hooked! If you've never been a black tea fan, I recommend giving this one a try with the weakened approach that's working for me.

I love high quality 'unflavored' teas, and this one is a winner. Smooth, full, rich body. Good for multiple steepings, and eac steeping has a unique flavor to it. Good for those with a more well-developed tea pallet, the ability to get four good cups of tea out of each serving of leaves definitely balances out the higher price.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

Flavorful and decitent beyond the traditional Earl Grey and English Breakfeast. The tea is a black tea which is normally paired with cream and/or milk.( this destroys the beneficial protiens and antioxidants and if puchased for its benefits, should not be poured within any tea.)
The only problem is that the tea, due to its strong content, seems to lack in its sweetness but can easily be sweetened by sugar, though this shouldn't be a problem for those whom enjoy black teas plain.
I highly recomend this tea to those who enjoy the taste of black teas.

This is the best black tea I have had in a long time, if not of all time. I have encouraged others to just try it from my stash when I make it and buy at least 8oz. or more if they like it. I can't tell you how happy that Teavana was recommended to me from the same person I had try it and he bought it on my recommendation.

This is also the most delicate tea with the full-body of black that I have tasted. I know that sounds contradictory, but if you steep it correctly, it is just fantastic any time of day.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I bought this tea to mix with a couple of the lemon/lemon-lime varieties for a hot Arnold Palmer substitute. The Black Dragon Pearls have such a wonderful scent that I tried them on their own. My entire family loves this tea, and you can get several brews out of one batch of leaves.

I use a 40oz Hobnail cast iron teapot to brew my tea, and the Teavana Perfect Tea Spoon to measure my tea leaves. I use about 3 pearls per teaspoon, which equals 15 pearls for the 40oz pot. I steep the Black Dragon Pearls for about 6 minutes, and the tea is just perfect.

The tea flavor is earthy, malty, and just slightly sweet. The flavor actually gets a little stronger if you use a warmer to keep the cast iron teapot hot. I used the same batch of leaves for 4 pots of tea and did not notice any change in the strength of the tea. The 4th pot was just as strong as the first.

Bottom line, yes I would recommend this tea, and I will buy more once I use up my first purchase!

I recieved this tea as a gift. Broke out my little perfect teamaker and away I went... First attempt turned out weak(due to water temp not tea)..second attempt was great...I like stronger flavor so I let it steep somewhat longer then Teavana recommends(a few minutes actually)..to my surprise the flavor it put out was just great and not bitter. This tea will make it on my purchase again list and will be given as a gift to my friends.

As for bad things... can't thing of any right now. Other then my cats find the scent appealing ^^

Cat, go to teavana and have them brew you a cup of this in a cast iron teapot. I almost passed out this tea is so great. get a cast iron teapot, you will not believe how much more rich and full bodied your brews turn out. I had to taste it to believe it cause i was skeptical, but wow! so much richer, full bodied and creamier than in a plain teapot (ceramic or glass). I don't care how much it costs, you can enjoy the teapot for life and it makes your teas so much more enjoyable, this was the best black i have ever tasted in my life, and the pot made a huge difference.

I can't figure out what I'm missing that everyone else has found in this tea? I like super-strong tea with cream and sugar and just can't get this to brew to my liking. Once I got the chocolate notes others have mentioned but of all the time/leaf quantity combinations I've tried I can get neither a strong or flavorful cup. I tried it black (before cream) and preferred the flavor but adding any amount of cream seemed to dull it to near flavourless. The fellow in the shop told me I'd get 5-6 brews out of the leaves making the high price a bargain; I don't find the first steep very strong and can barely get a second even with adding new leaves. The price is steep, the steep is low. Just a bummer tea for me.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I started drinking loose teas last week and got a few samples of different teas at Teavana. This was my favorite. I tried the first cup with three balls first and it was milder than I expected - from what the sales people told me (maybe medium body). The second time I tried an experiment by taking the balls and splitting them up by hand into finer pieces and brewing the same amount with the greater surface area exposed and the result was perfect. The same amount of tea and brewing time gave me a much fuller body with no discernable bitterness. The second brewing was slightly lighter but very satisfying. This tea drinking is very different from my previous life as a coffee drinker. There is a genteelness to it that is addictive. My wife thinks I am nuts.

The dark beer of the tea world. Extremely rich, dark and malty. I think it is a bit less complex than my favorite Copper Knot Hongcha. An excellent choice if you do not have the means to set your time and temperature, like at work. The little balls mean you don't have to get your teaspoon measure out. I have not had success past two steeps. I don't think you can make a mistake on the first steep of this tea. Very forgiving.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I've been drinking tea since I was about 8, and I started sampling high quality teas when I was in high school. Black dragon pearl is my favorite tea, hands down.

This isn't a fussy tea like some can be; a little too hot or a little too long isn't going to dramatically change the flavor. I found that 3-4 pearls equaled one teaspoon, though that might vary by taste.

I take my tea with a little bit of sugar and milk. The milk especially enhances the interesting flavor profile of this tea. It is slightly malty, but the best word to describe it is chocolatey. This tea is imbued with rich chocolate notes, and when combined with the smooth mouth feel, you could almost imagine you were drinking a cup of hot chocolate rather than tea... and yet, you never lose sight of the tea flavor either.

I received this tea from my parents for Christmas. My mother told the salesperson that I love strong black tea, and he immediately pulled this tin off the shelf. In customary fashion, he waved the lid over the tea leave so she could catch a hint of the aroma. When she smelled the notes of chocolate, she knew it was perfect for me: chocolate and tea are my two culinary indulgences.

I LOVE this tea. It's worth it's price, no argument. The leaves get at least one good re-steep, sometimes two if the they were a bit cramped.
Maybe it's just where I live, but I actually let my water boil before steeping, and sometimes I'll add another pearl for extra strength. Try as I might I can't seem to screw this tea up, unless I totally forget that I'm brewing it.

Definitely something worth buying if you like black tea, or if you are just getting into the loose leaf world. I use it to hook my friends in college ^_^

My wife and I love this tea. I work from home and I drink this tea every morning. When I run out of Black Pearls other tea just isnt the same. The only tea that compares is Golden Monkey but I think the Black Dragon Pearls have a more malty undertone. I brew them at 195 degrees so as to not burn the sutle flavors. Both are excellent choices of tea. Drink up and enjoy the smooth clean finish.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

This tea proved to me once again that you do generally get what you pay for. I liked the name --you have to admit Black Dragon Pearl is kind of "sexy" -- but I wondered if it would be worth four or five times the price of some "regular" black tea and then, WOW!
First cup, and I admit I poured my Teavana tea maker's full cup into my mug that I had first added my standard packet of Splenda, and I was hooked. I haven't tried it "straight."
I also found I only needed two of the "pearls" to make a full 10-ounce mug, after having used four the first time. It's even kind of fun watching the pearls expand and let their strands push up and out. (Am I easily amused?)
It's so good that I have called my fellow Teavana-tea-loving relatives to talk about it. Never did that before.
Seems like I've found my personal favorite for sure.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I grew up drinking this tea. My mom had it all day long in the family room for any one to drink it at any time of the day. It was always replenished by our cook all day long.

This tea taste great in the morning after sweet coffee, or after a heavy meal or even with the meal. And I accidentally found out that the leftover tea taste great as cold tea even without ice.

Nowadays, I put the left over tea in the glass jar in the fridge at the end of the day to drink it cold the next day.

I crave this tea all the time; it's by far my favorite black tea I have ever tried. It does have slight caffeine, not much though. I drink it a few hours before I go to bed. The affects aren't overpowering as coffee is for example. It has a full bodied flavor that goes from the beginning tastes to the after tastes with a smooth rolling motion, never lacking in "ooomph".

I actually had a sample made at Teavana. I was expecting this to be there best black tea, however, I actually prefer the less pricey copper knot honcha which I think has a smoother finish. Maybe my taste buds were weird that day, but I found the black dragon pearl tea to have a slightly bitter finish to it.

Black Dragon Pearl is one of my favorite teas. I brew 4 pearls per 16 ounce cup. I can get three infusions each time. My first cup I use sugar and soy milk. The second two I drink straight. It is smooth, full bodied and malty. I can't overstate the smoothness. It really doesn't need sugar or milk. It's the only black tea my eight year old will drink without sugar. I just ordered my second batch and will order Black Dragon Pearl anytime I get remotely near out of pearls. It's well worth the [$]

I am a black tea snob, and while the Golden Assam is my usual daily tea. I drag this out for special occasions or when I need to spoil myself. It is simply the strongest, maltiest most flavorful black I have had.

I like my black teas British / Indian style with milk and natural sugar, and this holds up very well. It has almost completely weened me off coffee. I make a 24oz pot and use 4 teaspoons (about 3-4 pearls per teaspoon) and usually get a pretty good second steep as well if I add an extra minute to my time.

The only downside is the price...but hey quality costs.

I bought this tea because I was told it was one of the strongest black teas I could get at a Teavana store. I used 6-7 pearls and steeped it for over 5 minutes thinking that would make it strong enough for milk (because I seriously love milk and black tea together). Not quite. The liquor is very light and the milk overwhelms the tea. It certainly wasn't anywhere near malty enough for me. I will not be steeping the leaves more than once as the flavor will only get weaker.

I have been really enjoying the flavored teas, but wanted a basic, unflavored tea. I made the perfect choice with this one. I started with 2 oz., but I should have bought more. Oh well, another excuse to go back to Teavana!

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I saw one concern review about hair/fiber like substance in this tea. Driking tea all my life, I happen to know this is a good thing, it indicates the highest quality. It means this tea consists of large amount of tender tea buds which is the reason why this tea tastes smoother than a normal black tea. This hair like fiber in tea is called "downy hair" or "white down/hair (白毫)" in tea terminology. They are harmless. The youngest tea buds are normally covered in silvery downy hair after they are made into white/green/a light black tea while golden downy hair for a stronger black tea, such as with Black Dragon Pearl. You will expect any black tea with golden downy hair to be a very robust cup of morning tea or a great pick-me-up cup in the afternoon when you feel a bit sluggish. Silver Needle white tea has the most downy hair because this tea consists of only tea buds, and the tea buds are only picked 2 days out of an entire year (rareset tea in the world), and they are the first mature tea buds right before they open into leaf. Time: in early spring. It takes about 60000 tea buds to make 1lb of dried Silver Needle tea. Tea bud must be hand picked to prevent broken....For more terminology on tea, you can check out this link: [@]

This is absolutely the smoothest black tea I have tried. It has a rich, smooth flavor, and no bitter after taste. Many black teas have a bitter bite to them, so tea drinkers smooth it over with a touch of milk. This tea requires nothing. If you don't like the bite of black tea, this tea is a great choice.

It bursts with flavor, but presents it in a subtle tone so that it is not over powering. A teaspoon of honey and this becomes the perfect drink. It is my favorite 'anytime tea'. In fact, I am drinking it now.

Comments about Teavana Black Dragon Pearl Black Tea:

I really liked the tea, though 1-2 pearls can brew a rather strong cup of tea. I was really concerned when I noticed hairs or hair-like fibers sticking out of the hand rolled balls. This was a real point of concern for me. The Teavana manager couldn't explain the hairs/fibers but allowed me to get another tea instead (equal in value to what was remaining of the black pearls). Not sure if I'll try it again or not solely due to the fibers/hairs.

Teavana Response: These fibers are naturally occurring on the tea buds. It is not abnormal and should be expected on most teas (zoom in to see them). Sorry the manager couldn't explain!
