How to Prepare Tea

The tea preparation chart to the right explains the amount of tea you should use per 8 oz. of water, at what temperature the water should be, and how long the tea must steep before it is ready. These are generalized and we recommend you look at each individual tea, which may be slightly different. Also, if you are unsure, be careful not to steep the tea for too long or it may become bitter.

All Teavana teas will come with instructions for that specific tea. The most important detail to watch is steep time, if you steep tea for too long it will taste bitter. Consider the recommended steep times as a maximum amount of time you should steep the tea. For stronger tea, increase the amount of tea, but not the steep time.

When making iced tea, double the amount of tea. For Herbal iced teas, double the amount of tea and double the steep time as well.

At Teavana stores our helpful staff will be glad to explain exactly how to make any tea you are interested in.
Teavana Perfect Tea Maker Method:
Heat water to appropriate temperature in a tea kettle (different from a teapot).
Add appropriate amount of tea to your Perfect Tea Maker (16oz or 32oz).
Pour the hot water in your Tea Maker and steep for the recommended time.
Simply place your Perfect Tea Maker on top of your favorite tea mug and drain.
Traditional Teapot Method:
Heat water to appropriate temperature in a tea kettle (different from a teapot).
Add tea to the basket of your teapot (some teapots don't have a basket, just add tea to pot).
Pour the hot water in your teapot and steep (wait) for the recommended steep time.
Once done, remove the basket from the pot (if it has one) and enjoy your tea.
Put the teapot over a teapot warmer to keep the tea warm for hours.
Teavana Perfect Paper Filter Method:
Add the appropriate amount of tea to one of the tea filters.
Heat water to appropriate temperature in a tea kettle (different from a teapot).
Add the full tea filter and hot water to your favorite tea cup.
After the recommended steep time has passed, simply remove the filter and enjoy your tea!
