Cuia Mate Gourd$12.95
This hollowed out gourd, called a Cuia, is the traditional vessel used for the preparation and drinking of Mate teas. Mate tea is very popular in South America, where the Cuia is often used to drink Mates in a group setting. The tea and hot water are added to the Cuia. Then the first person drinks from the Bombilla (Mate straw, sold separately) until the tea is gone. The Cuia is refilled with hot water and given to the next person. This ceremony unites all who participate in a special way. Why not enjoy Mate the traditional way with your family and friends?
Order:
To avoid bitterness, a cuia has to be "broken in" before using: Fill the cuia half with mate and top it off with hot (not boiling) water. Let it sit for half a day and repeat the procedure. Now the cuia can be used. | ||||
